Question about hawk ceramics
I just installed the ceramics on my front brakes. The hawks came with a shim already on them and i took other peoples advice on here and put the stock shims on as well. Basically I put 2 shims on per brake pad and the brakes have this horrible screech with they are warmed up. It ever screechs at high speed if i dont hit the brakes somewhat hard. I did use a ton of brake pad paste in between the 2 shims and all over the pad and i bedded them but it still makes noise. Should i not have used both shims? If not which one should i use the hawk ones which cover the whole pad or the ones off the stock pads which only cover half the pad? Thanks for your help guys.
This is what they suggest,
Use hawk shims only. Did they use new rotors or resurfaced at minimum? If it is making a screeching noise it is possible that the pads were overheated and glazed the rotors.

ill give it a try. I dont think i over heated the pads because i was only bedding them from 45mph to stop about 6 or 7 times. I temporarily had "pep boys" pads in because my brake were worn down to the point of no return and i didnt want to ruin the rotor. Maybe they glazed the rotor. How would i go about unglazing them? Could i lightly sand the rotors or should i try to rebed them?
Thanks alot neal

Ok i tried it with the hawk shims only. I am still getting the screeching sound. After i took the pads out i think i narrowed the problem down. My rotors have a pretty large lip on the edge, i guess the stock pads dont reach out all the way. The pads now have a groove on the edge on all 4 near the edge. Should the lip wear down faster then the other parts of the rotor and eventually the screeching will stop or should i get the rotors turned? Thanks for the help

anyone?
I tried lightly sanding the rotors and pads and rebedding them but they still squeak. They are quiet until they heat up, once they heat up they dont stop squeaking unless i brake really hard.
