Need help with installed coilovers. Possible problem

So I just got done installing my Buddy Club coilovers for my IX. I have roughly a finger width gap between the top of the tires and the fenders. Now I know they're not exact right now but it's too dark and I'm tired so I'll even everything up tomorrow. So onto the possible problem, I decide to get some gas since I needed it and I wanted to test out my new coilovers to check for any problems. So I start off down the road and everything seems fine until I hit a couple of "small" bumps in the road. I could hear some clunking around like metal hitting metal in the back of my car. It kind of sounded like I didn't tighten the nuts on the upper mount inside the trunk. So I check and everything is tight. I check under the car and again everything seems tight. No clearance issues that I can see. I'm running stock tires and wheels. Now mind you everything seems extra loud because I have the rear seats and all of the trunk lining and mats removed from the back of the car so everything is loud. So now I take off down the road again very slowly and start swerving the car hard at "LOW" speed....like a racecar cleaning off it's tires and no noise. Only when I hit little bumps and the car feels good, just doesn't sound good. I left the Spring and damper adjustments where they were out of the box since I'm having everything tuned and aligned on thursday at a local speed shop. So what can it be?

Welcome to the world of coilovers my friend. My Tein's do the same thing and I have given up on the quest to find the answer. Only my rears make a slight clunk my fronts are quiet as can be. Some coilovers will make this noise while some won't even within the same brands. My car handles like a beast so i have not had any issues.

Thanks for the insight. I just hope it'll be a lot quieter with all of the panels and the back seat installed.

Mine does get a little annoying even though it's not a loud clunking. Usually megan racing coilovers have a very loud clunk in which mine is faint but still there. I'm going to try a couple things this weekend, one of which I will remove the top nut and replace with a rubber washer in between the top nut and the pillow ball. I tightened the rear nut as much as I could this past weekend, it moved a bit but was not loose by any means. I also added some grease to the pillow ***** with no luck in reducing the noise. I'm also going to try to run the softest dampening setting to see if that helps. If all else fails I'll eventually order a new pillowball top mount repalcements from Tein and i'll line the strut tower area with dynomat to see if that reduces the noise.

Thanks for the tips. let me know if that rubber washer trick on any other trick works. I'd sure like to atleast dampen the sound.

I would try a set of heavy duty rear shock mounts.. Or even a set of stock RSM's
