Bilstein HD Dampers

I am looking at the Bilstein HD dampers to use with robispec springs, what can I expect out of these compared to the stock KYB's? Is it worth it? Any hard info or reviews on them?

Based on?

...extensive track experience? ...autocrossing?

Please explain.

The HDs are better than the KYBs in all racing that I have done.

^ Once lowered.... the Blisteins aren't much different than the KYBs. They are both fairly stiff. For stock springs the Blisteins provide a softer ride. I got to ride in a stock MR at the HPDE this weekend and it was significantly softer than my setup. Both with about the same miles.

The buyers biggest concern should be which springs because both the KYB and MR struts are excellent. I thought the RobiSpec springs were pretty darn good on the track. They are performance springs and not "appearance" springs like many others. The RS springs keep the stock rake and don't lower the car very much. Thus you'll still have more front wheel gap than rear..... but this is a good thing.

The MRs would be softer than the HDs. Making the HDs an even worse choice for lowering springs IF you already have good KYBs.

Just ran Grattan with the Alfa Club yesterday. And I got to ride in a stock susp IX. Power wise - about equal to mine. IX - OE Susp, A046 tires, DS2500 pads, DOT4 fluid. My car: HT10 pads, DOT4/SS lines, Z1 tires, Swift/HD susp. Both cars around 300-320 whp.

At Grattan, coming over 12 into the straight there is some bumpiness to the road. It makes going WOT through there and pushing out, well lets just say fun. For Evos, our AWD, and good platform - if you have the brass ones then you can let the car push all the way out to the right at WOT. Other cars will hop. That is what can unsettle the car and send you spinning. So what most try to do is fight the car out of 12 to keep it left. Which means you cannot put all the power down effectively.

I believe this is where the HD's shinned. In the IX it was much bumpier and the bumps make the car jump much more. In my car I was able to ride over that section. Car was more like a boat on waves. I know that sounds odd. But the car was traveling over smoother. After giving a ride to my friend (the IX owner) he noticed the same thing.

Comparing the IX to mine beyond that would be unfair. With my springs and sways I was able to attack the Ss, Cork Screw, and Hair-pin much differently - largely to the suspension upgrades.

The Bilstein HDs are firm, but it's very very different then the way the KYBs feel.
