Quick ?: Spring Compressor

I have a spring compressor like Autozone's:

http://www.autozone.com/selectedZip,.../selectZip.htm

Do I need 2 of these to compress the springs on my Evo for removal or is one sufficent? Thanks!

Are you doing this with the head on the car?

The OP is talking about suspension springs not valve springs. Yes the one listed in the 1st post should work fine ...

That'll do it for you, but any tool meant for MacPherson struts will work. The first one is meant for springs that don't have the damper running through them. Just do a reasonable job getting the clamps across the diameter of the spring and compress them evenly. As long as the spring isn't noticeably bowed you're OK, there's not a lot of preload in the stock springs anyway, and even less in most aftermarket springs. You may not even need the compressor when you put things back together.

And guys, he's talking about suspension springs, not valve springs!

I have the spring compressor pictured in the first post. I used to own two Trans Ams, a '78 and a '79 and I used this tool to change front springs on them. They did not have McPherson Strut suspensions. The next tool pictured is what you need and yes you do need two.
