Best DD Tire?

I'm about to upgrade my Advans since they have been on there since 13k miles (bought the EVO with 6k miles, and I think the guy before me beat the **** out of them). Anyways, I'm looking for a good daily driver tire, it dosen't have to be able to drive in the winter since there is never any snow/ice here. If there is, the EVO isn't going out in it.

Anyways, what are some of my options for good DD tires that would be under $500 for a set. Do I need a UTQ of higher than 200? Or what?

If its daily driver I'd prob look at something in the ultra high perf class. The Yoko S. Drive would be a really good choice. Decent life, good handling, isn't noisy. The Kumho SPT and General UHP also fall into that price and class range, but I think you'd be happier with the Yoko's.

I'm using the S. Drive Yoko's now, and they're a great DD tire --- and I do about 70 miles a day for the work week --- and they're very reasonably priced as well!

Dunlop Direzza starspec = amazing tire at a modest price. I've had mine on for a few months now and i love them, and they are really predictable at their limit.

There is no "upgrade" for the stock Advans that cost under $500. Actually, there are only a few tires under $600 that give remotely close performance such as the Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Spec, which is what I run daily.

I would not imagine you wanting to do a weaker tire that is above 200 treadwear if you don't even care about cold winter weather. If you aren't going to use the Evo year round like it's capable of doing, then get the best performing dry tires possible unless you are also concerned about longevity.

So would all of these tires give me around 15,000 miles of use, or will they be done quickly like the Advans. I know the Advans are high performance racing tires, and what I am trying to say is that I don't think i really need those. I don't track my car that much (if ever) and I rarely go to the drag strip. I just punch it on the roads/highways occasionally.

The Direzza Z1 and Bridgestone RE-01Rs - the best replacements for the Advan - will not last much longer than 15k. Other tires mentioned will have far less performance but will last longer.

The stock tires have no advantage for drag, so don't think in those terms. They are all about handling. If you never use your car for it's intended purpose, then get any tire you want. Any lesser tire will make even daily driving more sloppy as your turn-in response will be slower, they'll break away more easily, they'll roll over more, and they won't be crisp. If all you ever do is "punch it on the roads/highways occasionally," then you can get just about any crappy tire you want. Punching it in a straight line occasionally is about the least use you could get out of an Evo, so you should probably get a weaksauce tire with high treadwear that works great in all weather.

I went with the Toyo Proxes 4 in 245/35/17. I'm happy with them. As mentioned by Warr though, don't expect Advan like handling with these. I was just looking for a good mileage tire (they're 300 treadwear) with good wet traction. All of my racing is done in a straight line and my daily driving resembles that of senior citizens in lincoln towncars. So they fit the bill perfectly for me, I got them from edgeracing.com for about $430.

OK, so I think it is between the

BF-Goodrich G-Force Sport ($109)
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....nSpeedRating=V

or

Falken ST-115 ($118)
http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/fin...d=008389&ar=45

With these two options, what would you do? I'll be running stock wheels with Tanabe GF210 lowering springs. I'm hoping to try and get 15k miles out of them atleast. Not alot of track use, just DD and a few spirited runs. Also, what makes the falken st115 different from the rt615?

ST-115? Whoa, how did that get on your list. If you only want 15k miles, then why don't you get top-rated tires instead of total crap tires? You get these things if you want way more miles than that without handling. It would be akin to replacing your amazing Evo suspension with regular Lancer suspension (just an example).

I'd like to get more than 15k miles I guess, like 20-25k. I just figure I'll be putting 18s on my EVO before I get much more than 15k miles out of the tires.

And I was looking around and found some good reviews on the ST115. Granted, they are not as good as the RT's, but I read the RTs wear much faster than the STs do.

"Good" reviews? From other Evos? The RT-615s are weak compared to their field, but they are way better than the tires you've been talking about. They can get 20k while still handling at a level that is acceptable on an Evo. In this video, I'm on stock suspension and 255/40-17 RT-615s:

They get greasy on track after a few laps, but they never overheat on the street, so they work quite well as a DD. I have since moved to the Direzza Z1, which is better in both wet and dry but not as high treadwear.
