I had V710s, but the same idea applies. It wasn't TOO much. I still was highly competitive in SM locally and won a few events. I was only slower than one other car, and he was the reigning champ in an M3. I was only using 245s, not full-sized 285s, and the grip was overwhelming the MR suspension, but it was still very fast relative to most. I think a DOT slick will be your best bet, since the improved grip/handling/braking outweighs the weeble wobble effect.

I came home to find a pleasant surprise waiting for me on my front door. I can't believe they got here as quick as they did -- days sooner than anyone had anticipated. My experience with TireRack has been top notch and the price was great too! Now I can hardly wait to install these and see what times I run now!!

Doh! 2 weeks too late. I had to go with the Bridgestone RE01Rs to have them for the Time Attack last weekend. Oh well...

The taller 245/45s will increase gearing, which can be bad or good depending on the rest of your setup and what you do with it. The 245/40 gives less gearing and thus quicker acceleration but less revs in 2nd, which can also be a problem, because you don't want to shift to 3rd if you can avoid it in autox. Those 3 sizes all work well on the Evo.

Yes to the the shift point, stay in 2nd gear. Sorry..I have a 6 spd MR and that runs out of gearing in 2nd a little quicker. So the 245-45-17 work better. .

I wish I had gone 255/40R17, but I'm happy with my 245/45R17's. I wanted wider than stock, but the 245/40's had to little sidewall for my taste. And since I don't competitvley track the car at this moment in time, I sacrificed very little performance, for a beefier looking tire

Maybe next summer, when my suspension is more complete and I start doing track events, I'll probably use a 17x9 wheel and 255/40's.

How do these compare to the michelin ps2. I need a set of tires, stock size, for a track day(non-competetive) I love the ps2 it has been an excellent tire for me. I haven't seen any direct comparisons between the two tires.

Better dry/response than the PS2. Think of them as close to a street legal comp tire as you're going to get. Average wet, quick wear, but the best dry street tire you'll see.

Neal, do you mean as close as you can get to an r-comp with a street tire? Even my V710s are DOT legal, so I figured you meant something a little different.

how does the dunlop handle heat. I've read that it gets to temperature quickly but haven't heard much about how well it handles heat. The michelins ps2 handled heat really well. This is on a 1.3 mile road course in summer time, my lap time were consistant. never exceeded 20 min sessions. Curious on how the dunlops would do.

^ same tires I have on order. I got this email on the 4th:

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry to the Tire Rack. I checked with purchasing and the truck didn't make the scheduled drop yesterday. They have since moved the delivery date to Monday the 8th. We are sorry for the delay and appreciate the patience as we try to get these from Dunlop as soon as possible.
