Coilovers
Ah....s-techs are terrible...we all know this. Cuscos, of course, are going to be an improvement.
Jeff - do you have sway bars? I seem to not have that much roll. I know the Robi springs have 1" of play before the spring rate takes over. It allows the weight to transfer and load the susp.

I'm running the stock front bar. I was considering giving it an abortion and drilling a second hole just to feel the results of the so called free mod. Simply typing that made my skin crawl so maybe I wont do it. (Damn voices)
I know there are suspension setups that would make the car faster but I do this stuff for fun. I have been considering installing the Whiteline Roll Center Kit but I'm not sure I'll see big returns from that since I'm not lowered very much. I'm happy with the way the car drives the way it is.
The one thing I would like to change is front camber. I need a bit more. I may attempt to fix that this off season with camber bolts, a dremmel, and/or a large pry bar.
Back to the Megan Racing comment above. The street coil overs feel great and perform well even during 30 minute **** pounding sessions at triple digit speeds.
I've only read a few negative reviews. One person claimed they only lasted two years before blowing (not bad if abused). One person said they made strange noises. Almost all coilovers will if they aren't installed correctly. Someone said the adjustment rings come loose. That could be corrected with a little thread locker. That being said most people have no issues ... and end up loving them.

Search for DaWorstPlaya....he got his set from us and helped us come up with some great baseline settings to work with.

There's a set of Ohlin Flags in the ForSale section right now for a very nice price.

thus far I've run stock and megan streets. I've tracked stock and will have my first session on the megan's this weekend. Street feel though, you can set them nice and comfortable. If the mood strikes, firm them up. I noticed a huge difference for less body roll with them. The biggest thing was a very minor drop and a good alignment. I'll have better feedback after this sunday.
so far, very happy with them.

Boostfiend,
Y the skip on the megan street coilovers? I'm in the market for some sort of suspension upgrade (not sure if doing 1) springs and sway 2) springs, sway and HD Bilsteins 3) sway and coilovers and/or throwing in whiteline roll center and bump kits....) and if you can lend your opinion and back it up with some real world experiences, I'd appreciate it. thx.

^ Well I had the Streets on my 03 and they went with the car.
I then purchased my 06 and I decided to try the TRACK version. How much different could they be right? I thought they would be tolerable enough for short trips on Wisconsin roads. I was wrong. Even when I switched the 12k springs to the back and moved the 10k springs up front it was still too beefy for me.
After hearing everyone rave about the MR Bilstein struts .... and desperately wanting something more streetable .... curiosity got the best of me and I decided to give the Bilsteins a try. I went with RobiSpec springs because Robi knows what it takes to make EVOs handle and he has track results to back his product up.
In the end I found the Bilsteins to be more of a bragging right than performance upgrade. They work great with lowering springs but certainly aren't much softer (if at all) than the KYBs. Bilstein makes a respected product with an extended lifespan and Robi springs preform excellent but the combo doesn't surpass the performance I had with the Street coil overs. In fact there were some things I didn't think about when purchasing this setup. The lack of camber plates limits the amount of camber I can run and the stock strut dimensions prevent me from running a 9" rim with 265 tire unless I want to try a bunch of trick stuff to make it work.
Long story short..... The megan racing street coil overs were softer than stock on the softest setting and stiffer than my current setup on the stiffest setting. They also allow for much quicker corner balancing, include camber plates, and weigh less.
I know people like to rip on lower cost products but in this case I don't think the price reflects the quality. The only thing I cannot comment on is how long they last because I only had each set for about a year. I didn't have any problems at all other than the Track version made me want to pee every time I drove more than a mile!
I'm happy with my current setup. It performs well but just doesn't leave me much room to grow. I just hope it lasts. Just like there are coil over horror stories there are rumors that lowering springs kill struts. So far so good, fingers crossed.
(BTW - I purchased my megan racing stuff from Zeus)

There are plenty of threads running around discussing the various merits of different coilovers and the science behind suspension design. There are a bunch of coilover manufacturers who could probably learn something by reading these boards.
If you want something to lower your car a little and look hot on the street, pretty much any coilover will work. If you want something that actually makes you go fast on the track, you won't get anything satisfactory for under $3k. Koni (ZZYZX), Bilstein, Moton, Penske, Ohlins. If they're not on that list, do your homework.

great...so now I have two people I respect SmikeEVO and Jeff Jeske with different opinions....
I'd love to see Jeff try the HD Bilsteins w/ the GT Worx springs on clearance sale (10% stiffer than Swifts..not sure how they compare to Robi's, but SmikeEvo stated the Robi's have an inch of play b4 the progressive kicks in) and review them and SmikeEvo on the Megan Street coilovers vs. the track ones...
Ugh.

From: somewhere testing various tires, brakes, and suspensions.
Send me the suspensions (or cars), get some track time, and Ill be there.I did track on the Megan Tracks but I was not timing that event when I ran it. It was just an open day. And the track that I do have time on I have not rerun since the susp. change. Sadly, that track will not let me run there anymore due to noise limits.
I am quicker this last season with my Swifts/HD combo over my Megan Tracks by a good 2-3 second in a 60s AX. Some of that is a tire change (615s to Z1*), but some has to be from my susp. change.
