That is what everyone says, which isn't a bad thing at all. But I haven't been able to find any info on how long they typically last, does anyone know?

Thanks,

Performance tires, by their nature, aren't going to last as long as a harder compound tire, but that's the price you pay for grip. However, your driving habits & tire maintenance habits are going to determine how long they last. They have a 200 wear rating which isn't bad. My Advan Neovas have 4 years with a combo of street, track, and an autox or 2 on them, and they are still going w/ 180 tread wear rating.

in terms of longevity, if u rode on the stock 160 wear tyres, 200 would be better lol

Exactly, that's how he slides so easily.

+1 on the Dunlop Z1s, prob the best tire for any price.

Ah what!?!

Look to what all the street tire cars ran in SCCA - the Z1 Star Specs. PS - Goodyear = Dunlop...

I have Kumho ASX on my car, just good for daily driving, nothing special. GOod price too. I have Michelin Pilot SX mxx3 on another car. Tires are amazing but cost so much and have little life. Looks like those Dunlops are good alternative, I might go for those next time.

I got a set of tires from Tire Rack...and those were the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. They were pricy when I bought them, but bit the bullet. Now I'm at 40K (4 years ago) with them...yes, 40K. They have about another 5k before I have to replace them. I think I've discovered the secret to getting the most out of the tires - regular pressure checks, and tire rotation at each oil change. I did a 4-wheel alignment at 30K, and will probably have one done again in the near future when I replace the tires.

I can't say enough good things about the tires...by the way, if there's heavy snow, I just don't go, except to an empty parking lot!

Happy holidays everyone.

I have Falken FK452s on my evo that is my summer tire tread wear is 320 these bad boys stick.
I got them off of edgeracing.com I paid around 400 dollars to have them shipped. I could kill some good corners with them.

For average Joe street driver who wants the best balance of $$$/wear/dry grip/RAIN, I really like the KDWs. They are hard to beat for an all around tire.

Sure the Stars/Z1s so on and so forth will have better dry grip. They will also last HALF as long too.

I was recommended PS2's by a friend at a tire place. Will these out perform the z1's enough to justify the cost difference. Also where do the ao46 fit into this comparo. I hear z1 there really cheap but do they handle better.

I'm even considering compound tires. I'd like to make it more than 5k miles though. I killed ao46 in 7k miles. Had an alignment when installed. (its off now though). I'd be happy with anything close to 20k miles

I'm looking for a tire that will outperform and maybe out last the ao46 in short.

The Z1 would be a better dry/responsive tire. If you want the top in dry traction it will be the Dunlop. Properly taken care of the Dunlop should last a bit longer than the Yoko.

The Z1's will out perform the PS2s.

To break it down, my recommendation comes from national level Street Tire autocross performance. We would pay any price to have the fastest tire for an Evo with the most dry and wet grip. Usable competitive tire life, heat tolerance, responsiveness, initial cold grip and tread width per size are also considerations.

ONLY 3 tires are even considered

2008 STU class Top 10 trophy positions( 2 STis, 8 Evos):

8 of the top 10 ran Dunlops
1 ran Yok Neova
1 ran Bridgestones

We all have tested those plus Falkens and stock Yoks. BFGs, Hankooks, Kumhos, Goodyears, etc have all been tried. Believe me if someone could use a ringer tire to win at the SCCA Solo championships they would.

For the street, any of the tires that have been mentioned by others would be fine, but if you are looking for tenths of a second advantage look at the SCCA results, or Tirerack's Ultra performance tire test.

+1 Neal. We found the Yoks to heat cycle out a bit faster.
