Choosing coilover spring rates for your EVO
I cannot say how impressed I am with this whole post! I have finally migrated into a car crowd that knows what the hell they are talking about, and people listen ask questions and not get bashed for just asking a question! Unlike all the other forums I have been in because they were related to my car. I just got tired of suggesting something to them, just to be told I dont know what I am talking about (I am not saying I know everything in anyway. But Ive worked on high performance cars for several years, and I would like to say I know enough to give good advice) or just plain dont care cause it isnt cool.
I think Ive cried inside a little. LOL
But great post and knowledge!

So I'm curious how everyone came up with the Street Prepared spring rates. My personal expierence does not reflect that 600/800, 750/900 or 900/1000lb springs work all that great. So what's the REAL secret?
Ask John Tak. He was key in developing the original Showcase Evo suspension packages in 2004-2006 (along with Mark Daddio I believe).

Soooo, mind sharing what you're finding that works
. Ive been finding the same thing lately, 700lb is not enough in the front to control roll even with a big sway bar.
Making a change this week to start testing new things.

Honestly, I don't mind sharing anything about my setup. I think divulgence of information helps our cars and the sport grow. What works, what doesn't and what not.
The funny thins about car set ups is everyone likes different things. Some like it loose, tight or somewhere in-between. Really, after all is said and done: you still have to show up and drive.
That picture looks fine. Not an abnormal amount of roll or dive. Stiffer front spring rate will probably not stop that front tire from coming up, unless it does so by reducing grip in the front and making it push rather than grip and turn. . .
Been fairly happy with the suspension balance in the car for 2012 thus far, some more tuning to do, but for a year round DD + STU AutoX duty... can't have everything, as you for one know Jarrod!
Rates are nothing crazy, and having a stiffer front bar to help reduce roll hasn't hurt either.
That run from in-car below... one of those sad days when 1st run out was the fastest, aye...

A lot of great information in this thread.
Can anyone recommend a range of spring rates for AutoX STU class? We're limited to 245-width street tires (Treadwear 100 or greater, basically Star Specs or R-S3s).
My plan is to pick up AST 5200 and several different spring rates to experiment with, but I'd appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction before I buy a bunch of springs that aren't going to work.
Also, this isn't a DD, so comfort is secondary to performance.
