Squeaky "Girodisc Magic" brake pads

dont even know where to start.
i needed new front brake-pads, and asked around on the forum. my gut told me to go with oem brembo, afterall, experience shows "when u mess with a good thing, all u get in return is a mess!" BUT everyone reassured me that the "Magic" pads are super quiet......

installed new pads last week, and my goodness, i wake up the dead when i press the brake pedal!!!! it squeaks and squeals like a freakin piglet under a knife. i dont know what to do!!!!

well, if they werent bedded properly, that could happen. if they are too hard of a pad, that could happen. (like race pads.) you could try to put shims and stop squeak on them and rough up the fronts a little. that may help. people clown raybestos, but for $60 bucks, front and rear, and 20,000 miles on them, they are damn quiet. they act like the stockers when they are really hot, (slight squeak), but have been EXCELLENT for me. i don't race but have had to lock up a couple of times, and there was no dicernable difference in stopping. AND THEY STILL HAVE 60% LEFT after 20k! good luck.

bed them properly

mine squeak very rarely and only when lightly touching the pedal at a barely moving speed

I used no lubricant or anything...just slapped them on and went

I thought the magic pads did not require proper bedding procedure??? Now I'm confused...

You should always bed pads. It burnishes the material (heats up to set the material to final cooking) and puts a thin layer of pad material down on the rotor to mate with in braking.

oem pads were perfect. never the slightest noise in 20k miles. heaven only knows why i decided to go with non-oem!! decided to save a few bucks i guess....

i went back to the brake place, and they took the wheels off, checked everything - everything is perfect. i cannot stand the noise! its like Freddy Kruger scratching a chalk board with his glove... what i cannot stand the most is to keep going to repair shops.

Talk to Martin@Girodisc. The magic pads simply should not squeal unless something was installed incorrectly.

Magic pads on all for corners of my ride and since they went on I've never heard a sound from the brakes. I reused the OEM shim and went with a little grease on the pistons. Apparently, that is the secret.

Mine don't sqeak.

As mentioned, you probably need to put a little high temp grease on the back of the pads and follow the bed in procedure.

I keep thinking about this thread and wondering how you'd get magic pads to make the noise you describe. Is it possible to install one of the pads backwards - with metal backing of the pad against the rotor? That would make the noise you are talking about. If someone else did the install you might want to pull the wheels and look.

I'm running Girodisc Magic pads up front and like someone mentioned above, I get a slight squeek at very low speeds (rolling out of a parking spot), but have not noticed any significant squeeling like my Ferodo DS2500 did. Maybe you need to bed them in again. If you didn't even bed them in, then that may be it. If bedding them in doesn't do the trick, try some high temp grease, however, I didn't use any grease and mine are fine. Shrugs.

as i mentioned, this was done at a professional repair shop. a high-end place at that... one that fixes foreign and luxury cars.... i described once in a thread in OT, how they took apart my C36's engine, and put it together peice by peice.... basically, mechanics who know what they r doing...

i even went back there the other day, after i could not bare the squeaking anymore, they took off the wheels just to recheck everything. all looked perfect, except the insane mind-blowing noise!

so, for the 3rd time with my Evo (3rd bad experience with aftermarket "upgrades", upgrades, which always come back to haunt me), i come back to the same old conclusion, and lesson in life, Dont try to reinvent the wheel, stick to oem!

u say there is a mild squeak, and then u say "its all fine"... thats not fine!

and its especially noticeable when u r moving slow, like pulling out of a parking spot... everyone around u looks at u, and comments that u should get your brakes replaced!

i know an Evo isnt a Lexus, and is not supposed to be super quiet, or nice & neat like a "bed on wheels", but common, its embarrassing for even a slight squeak or squeal from the brakes... and even beyond being embarrassing..... its just not right! brakes should never squeak unless its racing pads or somethin.
thats why, there is Nothing like OEM!! and that goes for any product

Take the pads off your self. Takes 2 min once wheels are off. Apply disc brake quiet to the rear of the pads (As should be done on any brake job) especially on a street car, then a little grease on the pad seats and pins.

Reassemble = No more squeak
