Space saver wheel

I was on MLR a few moments ago and they say if you get a flat in the front it is necessary to remove a good tire from the rear and put it on the front....then put the space saver on the rear...is this correct?....or will the space saver clear the front calipers?

No, the space saver fits just fine on the front, and I would think with the open differential in the front, the front would be a better place to put the spare tire. Putting it on the rear, would work the rear differential a lot more than normal. Take a good look at the space saving spare, the design bows out a lot, precisely to fit over the front brembos. I would also suggest reading your owners manual, something like that would definetely be in there.

Good to hear it fits anywhere but I think limey had a good question since my owners manual definitely has stuff in it that's wrong, such as instructions for changing the wing angle.

Actually, the spare is the same rolling radius as the stock tires, so the difference in diameter should be minimal, if you take tire wear into account. So, you can put it anywhere without it hurting the drivetrain, it just looks like ***, i've already had mine on for a little bit when I got a key in my right rear tire.

The wing angle is a JDM thing, I've noticed it on a bunch of Evo 7's and JDM 8's. Might be "one of their options". Anyways, you always want the spare where the open differential is, as to not stress the limited slip, as it is trying to compensate for the different velocities and different diameters of the spare and stock wheel.

WTF?

your spacesaver spare wheel fits over the front? I remember on my 6 it was too small to clear the brembos. And the one in my 7 looks the same.

Maybe mitsu changed it for the ct9a chassis...maybe its a jdm vs. us variant. I will check on this.

My spare says T125/70R17.

The spare clears the front. I ran it for a few days when I got a flat a few months back. My rear tire went out and as an extra precaution we swapped the good front to the rear and put the spare on the front.

Did anyone determine if this was an option for winter?

Good luck finding a 125/70/17" winter tire, temporary tires aren't supposed to be good over 50mph and last even shorter than the stock tires on the EVO.
