P225-45-17???

I walked into Walmart by way of the tire shop. I needed a haircut and the Boss wanted to shop. Then I spotted this pile of fat tires. They were Goodyear GT-HR's in size P225-45-17. These tires have the M&S symbol on them and I will need winter tires. They are $145 tires marked down to $50 and they have four. So that is a crazy good deal. Evidently, somebody backed out on an order. But, would 225's look stupid. The speed rating is only H but even that isn't a problem in a winter tire for me. Anybody ever run this tire or this size?

PS. Why am I worrying about looking stupid. I once ran the spare in winter.

You will have no issues what so ever. Thinner tires are actually BETTER to help carve through the snow. I have actually put 215's on an Evo for the winter before.

And at $50 a tire, I would jump all over it, thats crack head pricing, unless they were take offs. Which is still good.

It is 9:33 PM now. As I was driving back to the store I saw it was 9:00 PM so I said to my wife, "This is a wasted trip, they are going to be closed."

We got there and the door was locked. Next I looked into the garage area and nobody. Then a voice hollered from the parking lot, "What do you need?" I hollered back, "I want to buy some tires."

So, anyway, he says to go around front and get a cart. That's what we did, my wife and I each with a cart containing two tires. Instead of going to the grocery line we went through the garden center (we should have done the grocery line ). I wish I had had a camera.

The tires have a wear rating of 400 so they will be hard but the tread is luggy. For the price they will do. Thanks for the encouragement. They are discontinued, not take offs. So these may be available at other outlets.
