I am in need of a drivers side rear axle assembly for an evo 8, but I have found one for a evo 9 mr rear axle assembly for sale. Was just wondering since we are on the same chassis, if the evo 8 and the evo 9 rear axles are interchangeable?

 

According to the FSM, there is a slight difference in final drive gear ratio between the 5- and 6-speed cars. So if you throw a 6-speed rear diff on a 5-speed car, you'll probably burn up the center diff and viscous coupler.

 

I dont think he was asking about the Diff just the axles, i am in need of one too so would like to know if the splines are the same and they are the same length???

 

Axles are the same and so is the rear diff.
