Quick question about the drop
Quick question about the drop
Hi all
Bilsteins on a 2006 IX.
I had the car lowered from shop and after clocking up 500 miles to let the springs settle, it measures 26 inches from the top wheel arch to the ground - a drop of 1.8".
Is this too low/safe for my bilsteins?
car is relatively stock, 50/50 track and street
springs are progressive wound but im unsure of the spring rates.
can anyone help?
Thanks

im just worried that the height being so low might ruin my shocks
It sounds like you have some Tein S-tech springs. Those springs reduce
the factory strut usable stroke quite a bit. Which means it is only a matter
of time till all the struts and or shocks blow out. If you want a near two inch
safe drop then a set of coilovers are in your future.

thanks for the reply guys
the springs are a 45mm drop on the front from standard height and the rear are 30mm drop from standard
the springs are these http://www.kingsprings.com.au/
- have just emailed for the spring rates.
measuring from the ground to the sideskirts (front wheel end) measures 170mm of ground clearance.
Looks - a good drop but not so low that my 18" wheels sink into the guards.
the other option is the 35mm front and 20mm rear lowering springs - these are firmer though
thoughts now?

thanks for that SmikeEvo
Just had the specs sent to me
the springs i have in now are
Front 215lb
rear 230lb
this gave drop of about 1.6" in front
the other option - the springs i had in my other evo which also fit this are
front 235lb
rear 260lb
these springs with kyb evo 8 struts gave 1.3"(ish) in the front.
distance from top of wheel guard to the centre of wheel/hub is 13" - which from a search the results were that this was ideal??

Thats too soft and too low. They will blow your struts.
Second set: the drop is less extreme, but they need more rear rate. The car would push with those rates.

Just wondering, the ride at the moment is about where i want it in terms of comfort. with increased spring rates, technically wouldnt this mean that my ride will harden back to the old kyb strut feel?

There is a trade off. To lower, increase rates, will change some of the ride characteristics. The feel will still be better than the KYBs. Swifts are also progressive. They have a lower starting rate for the first inch then ramp up to full stiffness. Sports were very comfortable on the street and still fun on the track.
