Ohlins DFV adjustment knob loose

Hey all,

I have a set of Ohlins DFV's(older models with swift springs) on my car. When i was at my last trackday, i was playing around with the dampening adjustment on them and i noticed one of the knobs is loose. It is not making any contact when i turn it. It just spins freely in place.

has anyone else had this problem?

does the shock need to be rebuilt or is there a simple fix?

im going to try and call a shock rebuild shop i know soon but was wondering if anyone had experience with this problem.

thanks,
stefan

The nut which is right below the knob might be loose, or the knob’s shaft is broken inside the nut. Basically the knob’s shaft (about ½” long) goes through the nut and just sits in a slot inside. Both the knob and the nut are one assembly and held together by a mini spring on the inside. If you unscrew the nut, both should come out as one unit. If the shaft is broken, just get a new knob assembly from Ohlin, NC 828-692-452. I believe it’s about $20.

The Knob is up top (top arrow) and the nut right below it. The nut is the one between both arrows

The silver nut, not the black one below it. Disregard the pointy finger.

I removed the knob and it looks like the hex-slotted adjustment tube that's inside is gone...so I called performance shock(a local shop at infineon that rebuilds ohlins). The guy said he has seen it happen before and that I'm going to have to bring them the damper so they can disassemble the top half(quoted me about an hour of labor at 100 + 20 in parts)

Thats odd did you buy them used? You say they have swift springs, who took apart the coilovers to install those? Although my DFV's are only a couple months old they have probably one of the most robust adjustment knobs I have seen out of many coilovers.

Yes I bought them from a good friend(the evo I run I also bought from him). The coilovers do have swift springs. My understanding is that they were installed when being rebuilt. The original owner used these to win an scca solo championship. Hopefully I can get the damper off the car this week and up to performance shock to get fixed. I also have to send in my mullerized jics for a rebuild
