Robispec race coilovers
Robi, What is the difference between your KW clubsports and the factory KW clubsports? What are the differences in spring rates? Why does the factory KW use pillowball, and you use the stock setup? Both are the same price. Why would going with your setup be better? Thanks
I just had to chime in here. I purchased a set of lightly used KW3 Clubsports off of Mitchubishi and it is by far one of the BEST mods I have made to the car (he had them set up custom, by robi i believe). The car handles so much better, ride height is absolutely perfect, and it is the most comfortable DD coilover setup that I have ever driven/rode in to date. I have beat on it pretty well on the street, and can't wait to get it on the track. Running out of time though, a little late in the season. Great product Robi!
I have never seen a set of KW clubsports for the evo...other than the ones offered by My company. There are both hydralic and spring rate differances. Also as I understand it, KW "clubsports" for other model cars come with no warrenty as they are to be used mainly for the track. (thats not saying that KW may chose to fix them for free just that they are not bound to do this). the current street product from Robispec is a "gen 3" product the ClubSports's a 5th gen, and the current Race produce have gone through two revisions. Using a street tire to my knowedge the Race level suspensions have not been beaten at a redline or super lap battle in the past two years...The high ride quality is secondary (and a BIG PLUS) but performance is the primary goal wth these.
this is how these work (sorry about the 370z being used as a the example but I didnt get the picts of the RTA finals race winning REESE TUNING Evo ...hope that James did...)
OK I was looking through the images from AAA Speedway at the Redling time attack and found a GREAT sequence shot by CALLI photography
Car is still under trail braking going right

Car is now transfering weight to the rear due to adding throttle

Car caught in the exact middle of the right to left transission and a touch of the brake

Trailing throttle and right turn-in weight transfer to outside right corner

Using the curb (still climbing)to cut down the radius of the corner and position the car for the next left hander

just after the peak of the curb note inside front tire still planted

Midway down the backside of the curb front still planted suspension extending
We have a VERY aggerssive rebound speed set into these "Robispec'd" KW's

Front effectively off the curb the tire has never left the ground!
Also note in the last 3 images the car body roll angle has stayed the same (within 1/2 degree)
This is while riding up and over a 6" curb.
This set of Robispec'r KW's has 3" bump and 3"+ droop travel

At full throttle chassis has never lost its "set" (gotten upset) going over the curb to place the car better for the next corner

Thats why Double Adjustable (2 way) long travel suspensions with independant compression and rebound valves ride great on the street while not embarrassing you at the track . I love my Modified KW's

I run the Robispec Race on my X. I don't daily drive them so I cannot really comment on how they feel day-to-day but they are noticeably stiffer than OEM. I didn't get them to enjoy on the street.
Anyway, they are extremely fast on the track. Gone is the dancing under heavy braking or the sloppy weight transfer of the stock suspension on transitions and now the car is very controlled, easy to manage under braking and very forgiving at the limits of traction. It's easy to dial in oversteer as needed with your right foot and the car runs down C6s with ease. I've had numerous people come up to me at HPDEs and ask me how the hell the car was so fast. It's really that impressive.
It doesn't have the "slammed to the ground" look but that isn't the point; it's supposed to hustle you around the track at a very reasonable price. Overall, I'm very happy. I'm far from an expert on suspension and didn't want to have to worry about proper spring rates, droop travel, alignment, or corner balancing so I went with Robi for my own ease and convenience.
My setup is the Race coilovers, rear sway bar, rear bump steer and front roll center correction kits, running -2.6F, -1.9R camber all installed by Robi himself.

Robi, You mention the "gen 3" product for street use. How does that compare to the clubsport? I live in a small town where most of the speed limits are around 20-40 mph so daily driving at those speeds does matter. Any info would be helpful since I am needing something soon.
Streets ride better than the MR suspension at all speeds the Clubsports ride = to below 25mph better at all other speeds, the RACE are worse below 25 mph = to or better at all other speeds hope this helps. They are all MUCH faster at the track...or spirited road driving.

Great information on this thread. I was going to call Robi this week to ask some questions about the Street Setup, but he has basically answered them on this thread.
I know what toy I'm getting for Christmas!

I had Motons on my Evo 9 and could not get enough front end grip. I ended up with a set of Robi Spec KW 2 way race and went 3 sec. faster at streets of willow on the same set up and tires. Unfortunately that car burned last year in the Yorba Linda Fires.
I finally replaced it with an Evo X and Robi put on a set of the Group N 3 way KW race. We had huge grip and adjustability. I ran a 1:12.97 at Autoclub Speedway infield with Kuhmo V710. Now I am running a KW Robispec 2 way suspension to be compliant with the Redline Time Attack Stock Class.
Robi will sell you a great suspension that actually works and help you with the set up.
