HKS coilover dampening adjustment ?

so i bought a used evo and it came w/ these hks coilovers... looks like hypermax.. anyhow it did NOT come with adjustment knobs. i've owned megan and BC coilovers with simple dampening knob adjustment but this particular one had an allen wrench style on top.

so i get an allenwrench that fits but doesnt turn either direction (ofcourse i wasnt gonna force it alot of torque). is that nut on top a locknut? i heard on the grapevine some HKS inverted coilovers have adjustment on the bottom instead of top....

thanks advance for assistance

is there an adjustment knob or allen adjustment on the bottom?

you could also call HKS.

turn the wheel and stick your head under there!

it is pretty damn cold....can't blame you. my motor likes it, but my shocks do not.

the weather is gonna be nice tomorrow....

a good way to tell if you have inverted struts (and thus probably adjustments on the bottom) is to look and see if your strut shafts are massively thick. they aren't actually the strut shaft then, and this means they're inverted.

GTWORX, you are right. i jacked up the front and i saw they are inverted. i adjusted the bottom. now the rear's look like allen wrench adjustable from the top but none of my allenwrenches would fit.

the rears should have a little knob to twist near the bottom

I think I've got the same ones as you do, I bought the car used and it already had them installed. It's got the black dampers. There was a tool included, its looks like a plastic knob with a long straight allen bit. I've never messed with it but since the fronts are adjustable by hand I'm going to assume the tool is for the rears.

In this pic, it would be the farthest one on the right in the upper right corner.

Those aren't adjustment knobs, they are just valve stem caps on the schrader valves for the nitrogen shock.

I have older Hipermax II's similar to these pictured and I'm trying to figure out how to adjust the height. They have pre-load adjustment, I know that. And I know that you can adjust the height by adjusting the pre-load of the spring, but I don't think that is the correct way to do it.

I'm thinking they need to be adjusted from the top like someone above said, my rears have the allen key, but the fronts do not. I'm guessing the big nut on the top threads down to lower it, but I cannot get it to go down at all. I think it might be because my preload is tightened up a bit and the spring pressure must be making it extremely hard to tight the nut down. Does this seem right to adjust the height?
