*rear caliper issues, please help*

so i decided to install all my brakes today. ive done numerous brakes jobs before and figured the evo wouldnt be to tough. pretty straight forward job and i was done in about 2 1/2 hours. while doing the brakes i made sure to clean and spray everything off, as well as anti seize everything that requires it. as i took the car for a test drive i started to hear a slight scraping noise coming from the rear. as i kept driving it got a little worse. it only makes the noise when the brake isnt applied, apply the brake and the noise goes away. i test drove it for less than a mile and put it back in the garage.

i took both the rear wheels off and inspected. the passenger side seems perfectly fine. now onto the drivers side. the rotor has a slight groove in it from the caliper digging in it! the back of the rotor seems ok. i took everything apart and reinstalled it all. i pumped the brakes a couple times and the outer piston seems to not be moving at all therefor the caliper is pretty much sitting on the rotor. i moved the piston by hand so i know it is moving and now i am puzzled/ what can i do fellas? thanks for the help

adam

Did you try and rebleed the whole system?

Yeah be careful, it sounds like those pistons are seizing up.

I "the caliper is pretty much sitting on the rotor" something is bent, broken or not installed correctly.

How did you change the pads too? Just pull the pins or did you take the caliper off?

Not sure if you pulled off the rear rotor.....

but if it is not seated correctly, (even though it should have been when the wheel was installed)you will have that issue.

I'm kinda stumped on this one.

i pulled the pins out, then removed the caliper followed by the taking out of the pads. i then replaced the rotor, anti seized everything needed, pushed back the pistons so id have enough clearance to get the caliper onto the rotor with the new pads, put in the pads, slid the caliper over the rotor, put one pin in, then the spring followed by the other pin, tightened everything down. i did the same steps for each brake, its just this one hanging up.

i havent bleed the system yet as i was going to wait for my buddies help when i do the SS lines. my only guess would be that the one side of the caliper not functioning right. its just odd that i can move it by hand (their a little toughter than the fronts were, but thats how both of the rears felt, not just the one) when driving the car and applying the brake the noise stops as if the piston is somewhat functioning correctly

Is the rotor actually rubbing on the caliper....do you see marks on the caliper?

well, found the problem! upon further inspection my buddy noticed one of the wheel bearing bolts missing. the reason it is missing is because the brake shield is slightly jammed inbetween the hub and bracket, thus not allowing the bolt to go through. yea i had mistu replace that wheel bearing prior to the purchase of the car a few months back as a temporary fix we put one more washer on each caliper bolt and now no more rubbing issues. ill be talking to mitsu tomorrow about this ordeal, and here i was about to blame myself for messing something up

thanks again for the help guys.
