my evo is yellow and i went with a satin black. ''semi gloss'' mine are not hard to clean at all. that might of been the type of brake pad you were using

I haven't done it myself yet but I did have a phenolic powder coating put on my exhaust by a local very reputable shop. I mentioned to them about my interest in getting my wheels coated but was concerned about the heat factor. He said they do them all the time but the curing process has to be a low heat process. I am not totally sure, maybe someone else could chime in on this, but I think he said under 275-300? degrees. I would call around acting somewhat stupid and inquire about each prospective shops process. Lastly I have yet to see any huge threads on here regarding powder coating processes compromising wheel integrity. I know there have been some but it doesn't appear to be a major issue. Just use your good judgement.

I'm no expert on this but I would be afraid to have my wheels baked at 300 degrees since it's alluminum. I might degrade the original strength of the alloy.

Plenty of people have had it done with no problems. Funny you should make this thread because I'm taking my BBS wheels to get powdercoated tomorrow @ Bonehead Performance in PA.

How do you think some of the forged aluminum wheels are colored from the factory then?

I guess somewhat that helps... i would tell the powder coating place to be real easy on the temps and how long they are in there for and make THEM sign a waiver if they melt them they pay for them LOL!

Are you kidding? WHat happens when the coating chips because you didn't allow the coater to complete their process? Are you going to return it and say the did a bad job? There's a standard for powdercoating. If you're all worried, then paint them instead.

if they need to do that much then be it but if there was a possiblitly for them to let them not get them that hot and keep them in there longer then i would do either way... i havent decided if i am going to yet anyways i would wait till spring but i really like gloss black on a IX GG and i have the SE so i wanted to do black!

some of you are taking this way out of line. either powder coat them or paint them. i have had about 4 sets powder coated and i know many friends who have done them. go to a professional who does powder coating. telling them to sign a waver HAH there going to laugh in your face.

the people who are having issues either had them done bye someone who knows nothing on what there doing OR rides the curbs and hits big potholes. news flash this **** would happen with any rim. not just powder coated ones. so learn to drive
