What about Toyo R888? Autox or more of a HPDE tire?

NT01 has the NT55II compound in the R888 carcass (think, not know). And I believe the R888 uses the RA1 compound. But the R888 is a HPDE tire.

well, i think you've made my decision for me. knowing that the nt01 will perform well, not the best, at auto-x is enough to clench it. especially when they cost $30 less than the v710s and roughly $100 less than the A6.
one more question: the nt01 is available (in the sizes that will fit my rims) in a 245/45/17, 235/40/17 or a 255/40/17. should i stick with the 40 series sidewall? if yes, 235 or 255?

Its a stiff tire. 245/45 will help you with gearing, taller sidewall might hurt turn-in. 235/40 will hurt gearing, better turn-in. 255/40 more ultimate grip at the cost of turn-in response.

NT01s should last longer than the V710s. One of reasons I went with the NT01 over others.

Next week, I can really shed more light on them after my race May 8th.

If you are serious about autox, I would really pick one of the top two (A6 or V710). Tires are hands down the best mod (besides driving) for increasing your performance on track. Being back half a second means you aren't competitive.

If you are out to have fun, than any tire will do. But at least for me it's hard to keep it "just for fun".

Agreed. As for tires, I think the *Specs have been the street tire of choice, and the Hoosier A6 are the r-comp of choice.

I thought the Dunlop Z Star Spec were a race compound? I could very well be mistaken...

Z1* are street tires (not r-comps)

There was an article somewhere comparing the NT01 to a bunch of tires. I just remember the NT01 finishing only .5s behind the others. Maybe it was GrassRoots....ah, should have scanned it.

EDIT: GRM, but a I cant find the article.
I would suggest the V710's or A6's for the ultimate immediate hook-up. There's also the super soft Hankook; like the C91 or something that are very hard to find and expensive. Can you guys run an actual slick? You can pick up used slicks for 3-400/set.

I've tracked A6's around the road-course and it's game-on from the first lap; no need to warm-up assuming you've got your temps set correctly!

Other r-comp's like the NT01, R888, RA1, R6 etc will need some heat built up before they hook-up. That is why they work well on the road-course.

I've heard people say the A6 is good for one season ..... average 10 heat cycles before they have lost their edge.

They may be worth it if you are in the top 5 of your class but if not you'll be wasting your money.

It all depends on how you take care of them... I've heard of 80 run A6s, and I've heard of 30 run A6s.

i know a guy who told me he can get roughly 120 runs on his v710's if he properly rotated them. he was consistently getting FTD in pax and close to it in raw in his A-stock IX SE. it makes me wonder how the nt01 will do. it seems like a better option for me since i'm a r-comp nub and something with a little more longevity and forgiveness will probably suit me better than the v710 or the a6.
