wheel spacers

I ordered a set of 17x8.5 enkei PF01 with +40 offset. I am planning on getting spacers and was wondering what the difference in the bolt on or the spacer and longer studs is? What would work better? I planned on a 10mm spacer does that sound right for the front.

i know using a 10mm caused me to have to buy extended studs. the lug nuts wouldn't even begin to thread.

i recently put 10mm spacers on my car..... I purchased 42mm extended studs, I tried to install without extended studs, they tighten but not enough for me to feel safe to drive on
