Steering feels overboosted after pump replacement
Steering feels overboosted after pump replacement
Hey guys,
Need some advice on my steering setup. I just replaced the power steering pump on my Evo 9 as the pulley on the old one could start shaking quite badly. The dealer replaced the power steering fluid at the same time.
When driving now, the steering feels much lighter than before, and, maybe it's my imagination, but somehow it feels there's more play. It all just doesn't seem quite as pin-sharp as before.
What could affect the steering weight like this? Is it the amount of fluid? Or some setup the dealer may have changed? or is it possible this is what it should be like and there was some resistance on the old pump causing it to feel heavier?
Need some thoughts please!

Luxury cars usually have light, overboosted steering. Performance cars have heavier steering because it provides more road feel. I'm not sure where Mitsu controls the pressure in the system. But, if it is at the pump then maybe you got a pump made for a different car.
I wish my steering was heavier. After driving MX-5's for 3 days straight from my trip to Skip barber, my Evo felt like if I breathed on the steering wheel I'd crash into a tree. The steering quickness is great but it was SOOO light compared to the MX-5's.
Any mods to make the steering heavier? Sorry If I'm jacking your thread. Just figured I'd ask
