installed HDs and Spec Rs (and blown strut? question)

First off, big thanks to SmikeEvo, GTWorx, and Im sure others testing and useful info. It was a big help in my decision between a cheap coilover setup or a good strut/spring combo.

Ive been chasing the source of my last two sets of cupped tires for a year. a couple alignments, wheel bearings, etc. It seemed like when I went into "winter mode" with the stock springs on my 85k MR bilsteins, the cupping was pretty much gone. My snow tires still looked like the way they did when I put them on last fall. I had some hotchkis springs on last year when the cupping got real bad. But also went with a sub par alignment shop, because it was convenient. Im thinking the lower ride height was putting too much stress on the already sore struts.

Installed the HD fronts and Spec Rs yesterday. HUGE difference from the hotchkis. Feels really solid in the corners, yet seems to take the bumps fairly well. Little body roll. And its not much higher than the hotckis were.

My MR bilstein fronts make a squishy noise when pushing them in and out. Couldnt really do the same "test" with the HDs. They are definitely valved stiffer! lol Does the squishiness indicate that they are blown? Im going to clean them up and send out for a rebuild anyways, just wondering if Ive finally found my source....

now to save up for some sway bars

Bilsteins are gas charged, so they should not be that easy to push in by hand. If they are, that's one good sign they are blown. I've seen it happen on a bunch of different springs for the EVO.

Good feedback! Interesting in selling us your blown set of Bilsteins?

Thanks!

Agree with Andrew. If you can hear it and push it in easily - time to rebuild.

after getting it aligned last night, I found out I have a little side-side play in one rear hub. So I figure I'll try and get some HD rears and new rear hubs and put em on sometime soon. Then take the wire wheel to my MR bilsteins and paint them before sending off. They're pretty ugly. Can bilstein replace the top "bolt" on the rears? They're sortof buggered up, but I imagine an entire new piston is pricey.

only $10 extra? Am I reading that right? The "bolt" in question is part of the rod, correct?
