245/45 is a crappy size...255/40 is much better.

I run the 245/45/17's for the strip to help the gearing. They rub in the front at full lock.

Based on?

245/45 is better for gearing than the shorter 255/40.

better for gearing is relative to what you want to do with the car. I like the the larger circumference because I didn't have to shift into 5th at the strip.

Bingo! I am running 245/40/17 star specs on an 8.5in wheel and have no issues. I decided that I would appreciate the sharper turn in of a 245/40 rather than a 245/45 over the added gearing.

Coming from the factory 235/45 advans I can say that I noticed a slight increase in RPM's when cruising however I dont think its too big of a deal. I may get some 245/45's next time to feel the difference however I think I made the right choice in my situation going with the 4o series sidewall.

Installed and rubs like crazy even with the fenders rolled. I’m sure the problem is the +20 offset wheels.

I'm run 245/45/17 on stock BBS wheels and I think they look better than 255/40/17. They fill up the gap a bit better than the shorter 255 tire. Below is a pic of the 255/40/17s BFG R1 R-comps that I ran last year. You can see even on a slightly lowered car they still look short. They also suck for gearing in the EVO9.
