Question on 245/45/17

Thinking about running 245/45/17's on my Evo VIII. Has anyone used this size and had any problems?

There are others with that size, although a tad tall. A 245/40-17 is a bit better size to use.

I ran that size in the Z1* as my AX tire. Worked great, no issues.

I am currently running 255/45/17 falken azenis and they feel great, and filled the fender gap pretty well. i have mine lowered pretty good and no rubbing if thats what you are worried about. i also ran the same tires in a 255/40/17 without problems too the wider tires looked alot better and i suppose handling was better also.

I'd do the 245/45/17 over the 255/40's. I'm running the 255/40's which are actaully supposed to be too wide for our stock wheel. Just gotta be careful I guess

I currently autox on 245/45/17 no issues. I had some rubbing issues before but the front end was too lowered. When I raised the front a bit to fix rake all of those issues disappeared. This is with -3 degrees camber in the front.

Technically though 245/40/17 is closer to stock diameter.

255/55? That is not recommended. Are you sure? Those are 68 mm bigger in diameter.

255/40 - They are also very heavy. And handling is not better. Turn-in response will be slower with the heavier and wider 255.

245/40 are not closer, they are much worse for gearing. These read 2.5% slower at 60. 16mm shorter in dia.

245/45 are closer at 8mm taller in diameter and a gain in 1.2%.

I do not recommend 255/40 for the street. You never will reach the tires ultimate grip.

I run some BFGOODRICH 245/45/17s on my IX and don't have any problems... However I'm on stock springs.

OE size for the stock 17x8 wheels are Yokohama A046, 235/45/17 I thought?

@SmikeEvo,

I run 255/40/17 right now, thanks to the crappy Goodyear dealer who told me they were the same diameter as the stock tire, which they turned out to be .3 inches smaller...my next set of tires are probably going to be the 245/45 as opposed to the 245/40's...should that also help out my track E.T.'s since they are taller than stock and not smaller?

This must have been covered a dozen times this year alone.

Correct, 245/45 will help with your gearing.
