For those of you considering Discount Tire...

For those of you considering Discount Tire for the installation of your winter/all season tires... Don't. For the second time this year I returned to Discount Tire for the installation of my all seasons and thanks to good old Discount Tire they have scarred another set of rims -- not just one, but all four. Not only did I ask them to use extreme caution, I advised them of their mistake earlier in the year. Needless to say, they denied the incident. Just so that I knew I wasn't overreacting, I stopped by one of their competitors to see what they had to say and they were in agreement with me in that they were careless. I am expecting a call from the GM Monday.

See it is important to take your wheels to a dealer, like my own, that knows how to change "race" type wheels. That is all we do and sometimes these tires and wheels can be a real pain to get on and off. I've not changed the stock Enkei's but who knows how hard they might be. (I'm guess not to hard)

Can you describe how they scarred the wheel? Is it scratched? Did they use the rim clamp or the grip teeth to hold the wheel? Just curious.

I don't find it surprising the other place agreed with you, but I'd have to see to pass my own judgement.

All Seasons

Let's just say it looks as if they took a pair of pliers and ripped off the weights with no respect for the rim. While I anticipate some damage from the placement of the original weights, I certainly would not expect to see damage to the area where the new weights have been placed. Not only is there damage from the weights, there is damage to the spokes on at least two sets of rims. Flat carelessness. Did not think it was that difficult to change a tire, had I known, I would have sought out someone with experience such as yourself; however, I see that you are located in Gurnee and that's quite a haul. I guess I now have a set of winter rims and tires. Diesel - I'm coming after those rims.

Which Discount tire did you go to? I've had good luck w/ the Lombard store in the past.

Let me guess: They ripped up the outer edge by the sidewall and trashed the area around the weights -- old and new. You know, a day has passed and a nights worth of social drinking and I figured I'd get over it, but it still f'n pisses me off everytime I approach my car.

O.K. For those of you who have actually done business with them (i.e. install), any probs? Yes, I'm a bit of a perfectionist. The problem is: I've had many tire changes with no damage what-so-ever. Anyone else feeling my pain? I'd take pics myself, but no dig cam.

Once a flatbed tow truck (G & S t0wing tow truck ) guy scrape the underside of the front end on my EVO. I feel your pain. Can't really prove he did it. I knew he did it because the car was brand new. He just didn't think I would be the type of owner to go under my car.

Here is a suggestion for those of you switching to winter/all season tires. Go buy yourself a cheap throwaway camera and when you arrive for your appointment, ask the GM to accompany to your car. Snap a few before shots of your wheels and that way this is no question as to when or where the damage occurred, if any. Just a thought. It's all about cya.

I think this depends alot on the individual store. I've had good experiences with the two Discount Tire stores I've done business with. My car will be going in for tires this week, so I'll be sure double check things.

I've had lots of good experience with them.
Individual manager may be the problem at that location.

Since when do dealers know what they're doing?

Going to Dicount tires today, hope they don't mess up the wheels. This will be the second time going to them, first time I had no probs with the WRX. Will get pictures of the wheels while the rep watches and inspects the wheels, and hopefully get something in writing, to replace the wheels if damaged.
