Stock damper life?

How long should the OEM shocks/ struts last? I have 74K miles and have no way of knowing? I do have the front end clunk I've read about in past threads, but that seems to be a different issue. Thanks in advance.

If your keeping your Lancer & drive it hard, I would recommend that you freshen up the suspension.

You should feel a positive difference. Think about upgrading to a good base coil over.
I'm running customized Skunk2 C/o's & they are an excellent street & track day product

Peace

Thanks for the reply, the car is a daily driver and does not see the track at all. But any way I go about it either OEM or coilovers, I'm looking at about $1200+, correct?

Not sure of what a replacement OEM strut would cost.

C/o's, depending on brand, maybe similarly priced. My Skunks were approx $1500 or so, keeping in mind I had custom spring rates installed

Was hoping to see a few Gurus chime-in to help you out (Im only half a Guru=)

Peace

Bilstein HDs are an excellent OEM replacement...similar to the Bilsteins that come on the MR.

Better ride quality and better handling especially over the EVO 8 shocks on real world roads and tracks. It's a win/win. Coupled with a good set of springs it's a better street and light track solution for most people IMO.

They are out of stock until (hopefully) december but are around 750-ish + shipping.

If you are not tracking the car I would not waste the money on a new coilover set until you know the stock ones have gone out. I've tracked with the stock struts a lot and they are still performing flawlessly at 60k miles. The way to tell if they are bad is determine if the float or bottom out. If the suspension compresses and rebounds solidly then the suspension is fine.

True! When mine went out you could tell easily, the rebound was crap, you found the smallest bumps it felt like and alot of clunking and slamming going on. haha. I have D2 coilovers for a daily driver. Its alot better but sometimes you still feel the small bumps. Worth it imo for the loweredness

I would look for a used set of OEMs, they can be had for ~$150 for all four corners, many with very few miles..

I've got 70K on the car and all the OEM struts and shocks are fine except for the passenger front which becomes very firm on compression during cold weather. This summer it drove fine. Talking to the company that made the strut they advise a valve inside is broken.

I was going to order a new strut last spring but then it got warm - you know how it goes.
