Tires vs Wheel size

Hey guys,
I don't know anything about wheel/tire compatibility so maybe someone out there can help.
I have a set of Exel TZ-10 wheels kicking around in my basement with Hancook 235/40/18.
I need spacers for them to clear the front wheels on my Evo and I'm prepared for that but the tires that my buddy offered me are the real question.
He has a set of Blizzaks that are 255/40/18 for 200 bucks.
The wheels are 18/7.5 +35mm

Will/can the tires fit the wheels?

Thank you!
Michael

I don't think that 255s will fit on a 7.5 in rim.

Yeah 255s need at least an 8.5 inch rim.

A bit too wide for those wheels. Needs an 8.5"- 10.00 to fit properly.

Pass. They'd be skis in the snow. Better off getting narrower for both the snow and for the rim width you have.

You don't want 255 snow tires, too wide.

People do put 255/40/17's on evo stock 8" wheels all the time. The tires don't stick out all that much. If you tried hard you might be able to get some brand 255's on a 7.5" wheel depending on the sidewall. It would be pointless. Just pointing out that 255 does work on 8".
