AST coilovers
AST coilovers
There really isn't much out there on this forum about AST coilover reviews which sort of surprises me.
I'm in the market for a different set of coilovers and have my eye on AST. Anyone out there have any detailed reviews they'd like to share? Whether it be 4100, 4200, 5100, 5200 or 5300 I'd like to read your opinions. Pros/cons? Etc....
Thanks in advance!

Ive been waiting for some AST 5100 reviews for a while hoping to get some info before the spring. Im between AST and Ohlins right now. I don't think you can go wrong with either one, ohlins are more established but AST has contingency prizes if you're into that sort of thing
GTWorx just sold AST's first line of coils for the Evo. Before this late summer, AST didn't have any options for the CT9A Platform which is why not much is talked about here regarding them.
AST's start at $1999, without top mount hardware. I almost bought from their first line, but ended up going the Ohlin route for ~$3000; once you add hardware to the AST's you're not too far from the Ohlins which come with it. Granted, the Vorschlag hardware you can put on the AST's is pretty good stuff.
If you have any interest in AST, GTWorx is the place to call.
**Edit** I was wrong, there were some limited sets made for the Evo. Not too many around, though, I guess

AST's are on my short list for my next setup. I use my car for track-only in case you're curious. The 4100 and 4200's are non-inverted and fit the current 5pt shock setup per NASA rules if that matters to ya - does to me!
I've got several friends running AST's in e36's and S2000's to name a few. In the Evo world; not so much.
I've read that AST has good valving (better than most) and good support. Like it was mentioned, they work with the Vorschlag hardware (which is pretty pricey but again really good from what I've read).

We've sold about 15 sets for EVO 8-9-X over the past year or two (4100 and 5000 series)....unfortunately it seems like most of those people were not active on the forums. There are a few quick reviews in the EVO X section, but I don't recall any here.
I try not to pressure people to write reviews, but I did assume some them would. No worries, I'll send some emails out on Monday and see if any of them can post some feedback.
Myles tested KW, AST 4100, JRZ, and now our custom Bilstein cup shocks on his 2009 WRX and then 2011 WRX back to back. He's very good at explaining the differences between shocks and has been on just about everything out there.

Well tell Myles to stop playing with Subies and get us some comparisons
Talking to my buddy Dan Hall, he says you guys are hesitant to get into the Evo's custom world as much as the Subarus cause the market for us is already too large.. But then there's rumors of you guys becoming a rebuilder for a manufacture Ill leave unnamed for now
.. Is this true? May we have another option for custom valving through you guys in the near future??

We run the 5100 series AST's in our evo 8 SM car. They have been great so far, and will be stepping to the 5200's soon. The modular design makes it nice to continue to improve their adjustability. They ride pretty good on the street for 700/800's. Another local runs the 5100's on his STU Evo X and loves them as well.

. Just kidding. It's a different market for sure, but things have picked up in the last year or so as more people are interested in functional suspension set-ups. He's right though, we started much earlier in the Subaru side and were sort of able to get a foot in the door earlier which made things easier. As for becoming a rebuilder for a certain german manufacturer, yes i think it's going to happen and Myles (grumble) gets to go take a nice training trip to their HQ over there. I don't know the full details and sometimes there are some careful lines that can't be crossed, but it will be a good thing across the board.

Haha, apparently Dan's all in the know
Well I just might have to wait till Myles gets back so I can get my hands on some sweet GTworx valving
. Gotta make sure to keep Dan firmly behind me! (In time that is)
