Wide Front Fender Recommendations

Hello all,

I have an 06 Evo IX with Enkei RPF01s in 18x9.5+38 (with 23mm adaptor for clearance so +15 effective offset on fronts) with 265/35 NT05 rubber on Enduratech Coilovers (~2.5 deg camber lowered just over an inch) and EvoDaves fender mod to get fender clearance.

The fender mod has worked great and I would recommend wholeheartedly to anyone needing a quick, cheap front fender fix. However, it's ugly and I want a more finished fix and would like to install a wide fenders to clear the rims and tires properly.

Initially, before my proper coilover alignment, the rim/tire stuck out about 3/4 of an inch. This likely decreased after being set to 2.5 deg camber but the fenders were fixed at the same time the suspension was aligned. As such:

- What width fenders do I need to clear my rims and who makes a quality fender (no overpriced JDM stuff please)?

- How much can I expect to spend total? I was initially thinking AIT +35mm fenders for $215 and $500 to prep and paint for a factory quality finish.

*Sorry for typos or incoherent phrases, I'm relegated to my iPhone.

I am in a similar siatuion too. I have 17x9.5 +38 RPF-1 with a 20 mm spacer and the evo dave fender mod.
Fender mod is great but it would be nice for people to stop askking me if have body damage.
The AIT racing fenders are the nest bang for the buck that i could find and are some of the biggest fenders you can find (the only bigger are the APR widebody kit at 45mm, do luck at 45mm IIRC, voltex double fender, and hks at over 65mm)

I'm running 275s on a +22 wheel and with enough pulling have got it to fit under the stock fender and a little bit of a spacer on the front of the fender. Looks fine, can't tell unless you know what you are looking for. I have nailed the fender twice though when auto-Xin on the 275 R-compounds. My car is fairly low also. A slightly narrower or shorter tire or a little higher ride height and I don't think I'd ever have a problem.

I did pick up some +15 RPF01 wheels though and am not sure what I'm going to do now. Probably just try to eek another 1/4" out of the stock metal.

Not sure how you got away with a 20mm spacer, my RPF was touching caliper with my 20mm spacer before I returned it for a custom one!

Anyway, do you think the +35mm fenders are too much or just the right amount of flair? Are there any, say, +25mm fenders out there? I feel like I've seen +15 or +35 with nothing in the middle. I was somewhat set on the AIT fenders as they are stock style and what I thought was big enough for my needs but after seeing some so-so reviews (which are very limited, net wide) I decided to see if there are any other options with better fit or of +35 is even necessary. The bottom line is I saw they fit like crap. I was hoping to mount myself and then have professionally painted but if the fit is as bad as some people imply, the whole deal may have to be done professionally which means more money and my car is gone for a while...

Sounds like you're in the same boat as us The EvoDave kit is great as it works for like 70 bucks to clean the wheels, just ugly... The more you pull the stock fender the flatter you are making the fender arch which is only going to make your autoX impacts worse.

I think the reason I got away with 20 mm spacers is a slightly different spoke design between the 17x9.5 and the 18x9.5

Ya that makes sense. Any idea on what fender extension size would be ideal?

I wouldn't think the Seibon size would be enough at 10mm... 20 sounds like it might do it, but wow, $600+ for those things? Would you think the AITs would require $400 more prep and work for painting than something like the Chargespeed?

Does anyone know what the stock rim (SE) offset is? +45?

I'm 99.99% sure the stock offset is +38.

Bought a set of the Version Select wide front fenders. Supposed to be +20mm wider. Unfortunately I won't get them installed until March.

Well I need it to be warm to do this, so please post when you get things installed!

Okay, so I did some basic math on how much more my RFPs with 265/35-18 tires stick out than the stock SE rims with 235/45-17 tires on them. [Note: 235/45-17 and 265/35-18 tires have nearly identical heights]

Stock rims 17x8+38 > 2deg camber so edge of tire moves in 0.884" > baseline is -0.884"

RPF rims 18x9.5+15 (+38-23[spacer]=+15) > 0.75" additional rim width sticking out (both stock and new rims are +38) > ~2.5deg camber so edge of tire moves in 1.1" > new number is 0.75"[width] + 0.9055"[spacer] - 1.1"[camber] = 0.55"

So, new rims stick out approximately 1.434" (.55 - [-0.884]) or 36.42mm more than stock. Does this generalization seem reasonable? Its probably a little liberal as the camber comparison is pretty rough. I also But it seems like +35mm fenders are really the way to go?

No problem. My body man can't get to it till March. Which isn't a big deal for me since racing in PA doesn't start till April.

Not sure on your wheels. I'm going with NT03 wheels along with 285 30 18 A6 Hoosiers. Guys are running these on stock fenders, but have to roll them a little. I was just doing the over front fenders to prevent rolling the fronts. And since the 285s are not as tall as yours it makes it fit even better. I wanted to get the rear over fenders as well, but I can't convinced myself to cut the crap out of my car.

Just looking at wheel change (not tires) stock to your current wheels is a 42mm increase outward and a 4 mm increase away from the suspension. I don't know what the stock fender to wheel clearance is (horizontally) but i would imagine if you want your wheels to sit flushthen you would want something smaller than 42mm which knocks out the APR, voltex double overs, do-luck, etc. 35mm may even be too big if flush is what you are after.

if you take off the evo dave mod and measure how far your tire sticks out from the fender then that should give you an idea of the MINIMUM size you want.
