Quiet tires?

When I bought my car last summer, it had some Yokohama S-drives. They looked pretty aged and the rears had the typical evo problem with more wear on the inside.

But one thing that annoyed me was how loud these tires were, whether slowing down or on the highway. Sounded like all 4 failing wheel bearings.

I'm in the market for some tires and want some tires that are quiet lol, I can handle loud exhaust note but not tires.

So hit me with some suggestions, thanks!

Continental Contitact DW are pretty quiet. They aren't trackable tires imo, but a good compromise between a DD tire and a track tire. I have them on my DD wheels and love them so far. Grip VERY well, but they do have a slightly softer sidewall than the advans.

I have heard that the Hankook V12 Evo (they have a really long name that I can't remember atm) are pretty quiet. Not as good as the Star Specs, but better than most of the rest for a pretty cheap, almost trackable tire.

I'm not sure about the Yokos you ride, but the BFG KDW NT, or KDW2 (they've had different names I think, the tribal patterned-looking tires) are loud as hell.

I have been told that the s-drives I have are not that great, and cause alot of wheel spin. Plus yokos seem to get real loud once they get alot of miles on them. These seem pretty old too.

If I have the extra loot to spend come spring, I will look into the Continental's. Since my car is mainly a DD I'd love not hearing annoying tires.

I seen those Hankooks and their around what I want to spend on a tire. Will see, thanks for the suggestions!

+1

I have them in OEM size and I can't even hear them. Not to mention they are smooth, handle amazingly in dry/wet, and come with a road hazard warranty from Continental (one year free replacement). I have a feeling they will be a legend in affordable, Max Performance street tires in the near future.

on my VIII I had the goodyear GT and I liked then best out of all the tires I have tried on my car which have been a few, toyos, nitto, dunlop( dz101 weren't too bad)and the last were the goodyears. After the stockers are done on my X I am gonna put the goodyears back on it, but I will have to check out those conti's too just to compare.

I had S-Drives on my 2010 Camry and they were very sticky, quiet and good wet traction. Not sure if they get really loud over time since I decided to turn it back in before I deployed.

Do not buy Nitto NT-05s. They are painfully loud, but grip is unreal.

I've used Falken FK-452s on an STI and I thought they were grippy and quiet for a daily driver tire.

My s-drives are really annoyingly loud. I have nitto nt-555 on my summer wheels and I love them. Quiet and sticky for a good price.

Tires I've run (just talking terms of noise here not performance handling):

Personal Cars:
A046s - got louder as they wore down.
Sumitomo HTZII - not too shabby for DD in terms of noise.
Kuhmo ASX - got louder as they wore down.
Falken RT615s - got louder (and scary in rain).
Goodyear F1 All-Seasons - got louder as they wore past the 50% life point.
Dunlop Z1 - got loud when they where just about dead*.
Dunlop Z1* - got loud again when just about dead*.
* to the cords.
Goodyear Eagle GT - not one peep out of them.
GeneralTire Altimax Arctic - snows, little noisy but not that bad.
Goodyear Eagle Asymmetric - so far (75% still good) no noises.
Nitto NT01 - loud, but they are an r-comp (not street used).
Pirelli PZero - so far, no issues or noises.

Family cars:
2 sets of Eagle GTs - no noises good wear.
Dunlop Winter Sport 3D - snows, little noisy but not that bad.
Dunlop Winter Sport M3 - snows, little noisy but not that bad.
Kelly Navigator Touring Gold - so far no noise.
Hankook RS2 - like Z1, not that noisy let, but might become as they wear.

Hankook V12 Evos are pretty quiet for a high-performance tire. Night and day next to the stock Advans.

I agree about becoming a legend. It was $790 for a set of 4 245/40/18. They are already dominating on tirerack in max summer performance category. I'm much happier I went with these than other names. We'll see how they are long term, but so far very happy in dry & wet.

+1 on the DW's. You'll get a little less life than the S-Drive, but they will handle better in dry and ride a bit quieter also. You can also rotate them as its an asymmetrical tread design. Performance level of a Michelin for less cost.

+1 on the Hankooks and for the price they retail, they are hard to beat.

I have the KDW's and they grip well and look aggressive but are obnoxious at freeway speeds.

I run Bridgestone RE960's as a DD tire.
They are very quiet and completely transform the ride (I'm on 10/12K DFV's).
Surprisingly they grip well in the dry and are awesome in the wet.
