Tire / Wheel Fitment Questions
I'm just getting started with my Evo 8, was wondering which direction to go as far as fitment and suspension, rims, and offsets ect. I know there's always a brand that works best with certain cars and models but I'm not familiar with any of it just yet, suggestions please?
Welcome aboard & congrats on your EVO
Theres no one answer when it comes to wheels/tires. Rifle through the many wheel threads & get some ideas
This thread here is one of the most popular. There are wheel specific threads as well i.e. Volk, Advan, Enkei, Rota, & others

You will have to decide if you want a wheel that fits w/a stock rear fender or if you want it modded to fit the aggressive wheel/tire

Its all based on spoke design. Sure a low offset wheel will be more prone to fit over the calipers. Makes sense to me
The low offset is merely pushing the wheel further to the fenders which of course brings up other issues
You are clearly trying to achieve a window of offset & tire size that you are willing to deal with w/out rubbing

Rota Force 18x9
Do you think these will fit my evo 8 2003 without any mods needed to be done to the body. Really trying to avoid rolling guards etc if possible. Spoke with Rota who have advised 18x9 with 27mm offset is the way to go. What do yous think? What size tyre would you recommend?

The +27 is aggressive & will likely cause you to roll & maybe pull the rear fenders
depending on tyre choice
A 255/35/18 would be a good choice to start. A 265/35 would give a bit more of an aggressive footprint. If you really want an aggressive meaty tyre, look at a 40 series profile.
Either way, the +27 will cause rear fender issues. Have a good suspension shop work on measuring & providing proper clearance
Pictured is a rolled & pulled fender less the rear coilover, showing full suspension stroke. This is what you need to achieve for a no rub fit
But, being a meaty tire guy, I would personally consider a 255/40 or 265/40. Rear fender prep needed for sure
Just my opinion. To date Im the only tire guy frequenting this thread
Screen name "Chu" is good at this & maybe he'll chime-in
The wheel size is very EVO friendly. The +35 puts you right in the sweet spot. I wont give exacts but a 255/35/18 is probably a no brainer w/no fender work needed. I would personally look into a 265/35 (possible fender roll needed)

^^^ Ive personally run a 255/35/18 on a +38 wheel w/ no rear fender mods. You are only 3mm (.11") difference. Now, I always advise those that are running aftermarket wheels & tires to get the rear fender treatment. Its very important to avoid any rub
If I were you, I would get a roll just in case. You could then run a 265/35

any other words of wisdom are greatly appreciated
The overall size & offset are pretty good. 18x9 is a good size & width. When you get into the 9.5 wide wheels is when fitment gets more complicated

^^^I think you should first have some ideas in regards to what wheels have caught your eye
The simple answer would be to stay w/a stock set-up. +38 offset is very forgiving
Have you given some thought to using the EVO X wheel on your 8? Its a great wheel /
18x8 +38.
