Strut question/issue. Please help!

Sorry about the crummy cell phone pic but I just got these used from another EvoM member who will remain nameless for now. My question is, this strut is obviously missing one of the studs on top. Is it possible to reuse a stud from the struts that are on the car right now or can I order a new one from somewhere?? Thanks for your help guys!

How are those 3 bolts attached? Look at them from the underneath side. Are they banged in there like wheel studs where you could bang in another?

Yeah that's what it looks like. But I was just wondering if someone knew for sure if that's what I could do.

replacing top hat looks like best option. The top hat in the pic looks all f'ed up....or just run with two bolts man, you'll be fine.

you can remove one from you setup and replace there, all you need is a hammer, piece of wood and some brave soul to hold the strut, I've done it before. To me it's way easier that replacing the top mount, since you will need a special tool to compress the spring, and special tools to remove/replace the top nut. That strut in the picture looks really bad, rusted and all, you could spray some black paint so at least you inhibit the rusting some. Good luck.

Thanks man! I'll try hitting it with some paint. I'm not surprised now that things aren't what they seemed to be before I bought them. The seller turned out to be a real dirtbag. If you ever come across Impactblue, don't buy anything from him. He's not a very honest guy.

the mods on this site do not do a damn thing. i was getting ripped 130.00 bucks and went to the mods for help. HAHAHA. i had to take matters into my own hands.

sorry the OP got burned. bad situation. IMO bring it to a shop like STS or someone who does suspension. have the top changed out for one that you have ''if you have one'' do NOT run 2 bolts. that is the dumbest thing to do.

I was obviously joking about the bolts....let me guess thats the passenger side strut?

This guy bought a beat up car and has been restoring it, pretty nice of him to sell you the one that came off the crashed car.

Yeah that's the guy. Here's the thread. It was a whole step up and I'm not sure where he got it from. Of course he claims they were mint but based on everything else, I have to wonder now.

Yep, I saw that thread too, also note the lack of top hat pics in it. That suspension definitely came off the crashed car, it just makes the most sense.

Yeah you're probably right. Well they're going on tomorrow so I guess I'll find out then if they're still good or not. I inspected them the best I could and the only thing I really saw wrong was a little rust (as you can see) and one of the top perches is out of alignment with the bottom, but we should be able to correct that pretty easily. Hopefully everything will be good. Wish me the best.
