Help with Suspension (Assist Link) reinstall

Working on a wrecked evo and replacing all the rear suspension pieces.
The last piece to refit is the rear (front) control arm also known as the assist link.

Here is a diagram with the bolt in question I'm trying to get on correctly.

I can't for the life of me get the 22mm bolt tightened properly on the assist link where it connects to the knuckle. I had the same problem with the upper control arm link, but under load was able to tighten it properly. On the assist link I haven't found the trick yet, was hoping someone here had some experience.

Thanks,

David

Push the rubber boot up out of the way, grab ahold of the metal cylinder above the threads with a set of channel locks tight enough that it doesn't spin, and then tighten down the nut far enough that it tightens everything down enough to keep the cylinder from wanting to spin in place anymore, but doesn't lock the channel lock onto it. Oh, and be careful not to tear the boot in the process. That's the "technique" I use in that situation where putting load on the suspension isn't enough to keep it from spinning. If someone has a better way of doing it, I'm all ears.

When i've done that arm all i've had to do is push down hard on the arm so it can try and grab the taper, or have someone else push down for you while you tighten it.

I'll give it a try tonight, still waiting on new coilovers and was still trying to fish a lower trailing arm and might go ahead and replace hub assembly.
