Front Coilover Removal Help. Picture Included

GOT IT, post updated towards bottom. Thanks for help everyone

I am attempting to install new coilovers on my vehicle and besides getting 1 wrong coilover in my set of 4 ordered new (Trust me, my luck is awesome this is nothing), I'm also having difficulty removing the 2 nuts/bolts that attach the front coilovers to the hub knuckle.

I have searched, looked at pictures, diagrams, manuals, videos, the part isn't about knowing. I am just really afraid these bolts are going to snap and wonder if anyone has snapped them and their methods of getting them out. I haven't snapped it, I've had it sitting all night with pbblaster, I'm using a breaker bar and just get that feeling it's going to snap if I try to turn it any harder.

If you look at the picture (Front Left - Driver Side) I'm first trying to get the top one out. I've been turning the Nut on the left hand side closest to caliper to the left to loosen and haven't had any luck. Per the youtube video on an evo8 install the bolt goes in from the right side (closest to door) and has an indent that kind of sits into the perch so that side wouldn't turn if I tried correct? Ideas, suggestions, feedback appreciated. Just really don't want to snap the bolt and I don't have any impact tools to make life easy.

Thanks again

David

simular on how dsms front knuckle is set up. Im sure if they havent been touched they will be tight. I foget the size 17mm or 19mm and get breaker bar and wrench and go to town. If you have air tools that may you'r life easier. But from the post you dont have any. Just get some pb and spray them down and wait a lil bit and go to town. Im sure those bolts wont snap bud.

Get a bigger breaker bar. The bolt won't break. I broke a wrench trying to undo one of those bolts the first time I swapped my suspension.

Front bolts is very strong. Use the breaker bar and it will eventually break loose. Rear bolts is different story though.

Rear bolts didn't give me any problems at all, only problem I had was trying to figure out why one of my new coilovers in rear isn't for my car make (not a big deal, working out with vendor and should have correct piece by tue/wed). Front however, was having at it with breaker bar and it just didn't seem like a break or loosening, felt more like bending and go snap lol. I'll have at later this evening after I drop off this bad coilover and if I snap the bolts oh well, shouldn't cost too much from stealership.
Thanks for help guys, will post results later.

Soak em in PB Blaster over night. Try again in the AM. If still n/g then get yourself a length of black pipe @ HD to slide over breaker bar. They'll move. Just crack em hard, you won't break them.

I had the same problem about a month ago. The key is PATIENCE! The camber bolt on the right front was actually seized in the hub knuckle. I used a lot of PB Blaster , a soft hammer, and a torch to get it off. As long as you are careful and keep the brake lines away from the torch, you will get it. Those bolts are durable and can take a pounding, I broke a 3/8" ratchet

And yes, the camber bolt is slotted so you have to loosen the nut, the bolt isn't going anywhere!

I got the stock coilovers out and new ones in saturday night. As people stated, the bolts did not snap, just had to keep pushing on the breaker bar.

Just a key note for anyone searching for this, the bolt I was loosening and the reason why it felt like the bolt was going to snap instead of loosen was the fact that the bottom bolts on the front will turn. I was turning nut with breaker bar (w/extension) and had to put a second 19mm on the bolt side to lock in into place to finally get it loose. I didn't notice until I got a drop light up in there and put a mark on the bolt to determine that the whole bolt was moving. Didn't have problems with top one moving since it had that accentric piece for camber adjustment.

I actually ripped my socket in half trying to get that bolt loose. Just go at it and it will come free.

try turning the bolt, not the nut and see if that helps you. And don't worry about breaking it. If it does break you can drive the bolt out with a punch in about 15 seconds and put a new one in.

also (be careful) hit the handle of the rachet with a hammer. and, make sure you are turning it the right way (not trying to insult you, but people do it)

Like everyone else said those bolts won't break. I pulled off a set of coilovers and put on the stock struts and springs 2 days ago. Those bolts are big they won't break.
