snow snow snow snow and...

My M3's just came in yesterday, ganna have them put on next weekend, they look like they r good for some resonably deep snow. I live in NY out on the island so i'll be seeing a good deal of snow in the winter. Off topic, you guys think that i can get the stock advans to fit on a set of 17x8.5 gram lights 57s? or would that not be a good idea??

Hey Guys, I just got the M3's installed a few days ago and inflated the tires to 33PSI. The tires seem to slide around very easily and sidewalls are mushy (compared to the Advans at least) Just wondering if inflating to a higher PSI will alleviate some of my problems and if so, what PSI are you running in your M3's.

I should be getting mine on the 20th of Nov. I'll let you guys know what I think. I have low expectations compared to the Advans. I think some people just are spoiled by the Advans. As long as they perform in the snow, that's all I care about.

Higher pressures will stiffen up the tire a little and provide a bit better handling. I wouldn't take them past the MAX though. Move in small pressure increases until you get the preferred feel

Thanks Neal! I inflated to 40PSI and much better improvement. However, if i ever do encounter heavy snow, should i deflate to OEM levels? Yes i know i'm in sunny Los Angeles, but i plan on skiing at Mammoth Mountain every weekend where it snows heavily up there.

Running 40 in the snow will be fine. The tire wont deflect enough to at lower pressures to really make a difference

Cant touch the snow/ice traction of the Blizzaks, but they do handle better and will last a bit longer than the B-Stones. Works great in urban areas where you see mainly clear roads/hwys. Not really designed for the deeper harsher stuff.

I just got the M3's installed today at Big Bear Tire . They are a great place by the way if you are looking for tires in Southeastern Wisconsin. They had a great price on these in 235/45/17, and as of today, they had an extra set. I know these tires are very hard to come by, so someone should jump on this ASAP. Just please mention my name if you do (as a favor to the owner).

So, my impressions... I really like the M3's. I was sure they were going to be totally different for the dry grip. The grip is less than the A046's for sure, but still very respectable. I can definitely feel the squirm of the sidewall/tread, but when you look at my A046's below, you can see why. Going from a bald tire to a full-depth tire will make a big difference regardless of the tire. I would compare the squirm to how a all-season feels. I can't wait for the snow to try them out. They are relatively quiet compared to the Advans also. My experience with snow tires to date has been Green Diamond Icelanders, Nokian WR's, and now these. So far, I like the dry handling of these the best. We will see how they hold up in the snow.

Also, I put my alignment back to more sane settings for the winter and threw my stock springs back on so that my intercooler wasn't a snow plow.

9000 miles on the Advans by the way. Not much rubber left on them.

I had the Nokian WRs on my EVO last year in Massachusetts. They're not too bad in the dry (not up to the Advans, of course), especially as I went with 225 width for cutting through snow. And the WRs are VR rated with a 94V load rating. (Most 225 width winter tires have a lower load rating.)

They're pretty good in deep snow, but a little disappointing on ice. I was also considering the LM22s or M3, which would probably be better on ice, but not as good on unplowed roads. But the WRs were so good in the deep stuff, that I can't help but wonder what the Hakkas would be like. (Need to live in Fairbanks to use 'em, I guess.)

For DC Metro, I probably should have the WS50s, as it likely gets more ice than snow, and nobody gets to VR speeds around here, even in dry weather.

For ice, nothing beats the Green Diamond Icelanders. I had them on my Subaru for ice racing. They were awesome on ice. Too bad they don't make a 17" tire. For anyone who doesn't know, Icelanders have little flecks of carbide molded into the tread and are completely legal in the US.

I just put a set of M3s on my car 3 days ago. They feel exactly like the stock Advans...if you fill them up to 40psi and only drive in straight lines! Seriously though, they are better than I thought they would be, as you long as you drive like you have an Accord, not an Evolution. Braking ability and overall grip are greatly reduced , but not nearly as bad as the Blizzaks I ran on my 95 GSX. For what they are, they are pretty nice. Now I find myself hoping for snow, because it is gonna suck having these on when the ground is dry. I guess I got spoiled...maybe this is what the softer suspension on the MR feels like...
