have you tried self-truing the pad and rotor by breaking them in again?

basically--

find an open bit of road absolutely no one else is on, and nearby a highway or other road that you will NOT have to stop or slow down on. stop lights or busy stop signs must be avoided after this procedure.

ok, so after finding that type of place, go about 40mph and stand on the brakes until ABS engages and ride the ABS to a stop. get back up to 40 and do it again. keep doing it until you feel significant fade and, hopefully, no shimmying.

then, drive away and do not apply the brakes for at least 20 minutes. if you are forced to stop after this procedure you will eff stuff up again. ideally you would drive at least 20 minutes and then using nothing more than very light braking, get home and park for at least a few hours to allow everything to completely cool.

this procedure works great as both an initial bedding in and an attempt to fix chatter. it works great for that if the problem is just pad deposit, but probably won't work if the rotor is truly uneven.

Needing new tires too, I figured I'd look on tirerack for some different rotors too. To my surprise, they had some EBC Sport Grooved Sport Brake Rotors for $280/pair.

Has anyone used these rotors before? Neal, what's your take on these? I really like the price on these. They are definately cheaper than the alternative aftermarket rotors, most of them around $500/pair.

Any input/comments appreciated.

TIA guys/gals.

Doug, you're paying a little too much if you're thinking about purchasing the rotors.

We are a machine shop located in Orange County, California. We specialize in high performance brake rotors. We are currently selling four rotors for $400.00. However, I will offer a special discount to evolutionm.net members, giving four rotors for $360.00.

Our rotors come with 90 days full replacement warranty. No worries. Slam on the brakes as hard as you want. Try cracking them if possible. We stand behind our products and will take good care of our customers.

Below is a picture of slotted rotors on the left and dimple drilled rotors on the right. We can also offer the rotors cross-drilled and slotted.

4 Rotors (Any design) = $360.00
4 Stainless Steel Braided Brake Lines = $104.00
Complete Set of Axxis Ultimate Ceramic Pads = $150.00

The rotors come silver, black, gold, or just like below.

Aww, I bought rotors a while ago for a whopping $499 a pair. Bummer! I replaced the fronts only, but thankfully my brake problems are now gone! 10k miles on the new rotors and they are still smooth as ever.

Those look like some kick'n rotors though. I'll keep you guys in mind if I ever decide to get some slotted rotors for the rear!

I'm interested somewhat.. just curious what dimpled rotors are? Are they better than slotted/drilled as far as cracking goes?

Front X-Drilled Slotted Rotor = $140.00/ per rotor
-Outside Diameter = 320mm
-Height = 43.5mm
-Bolt Pattern = 5-4 1/2

Rear X-Drilled Slotted Rotor = $120.00/ per rotor

All R1 Concepts Rotors are certified to meet QS and ISO Quality System Standards. All rotors are manufactured to OE specifications using the same process as the factory does. Black E-Coating is applied to the rotors for a custom look and rust protection.

No, but one of my buddies, can do the installation for you for about $80.00 - $100.00. He has a storefront down the street from us.

r1, i'm interested in picking up a set in black. Does the black paint STAY ON or does it wear off over time?

Alex, the rotors are E-Coated Black. The paint will not wear off the rotors. We even tried using acid on the rotors, and the paint held on. PM or call me if you're interested in purchasing the rotors.

Evolved, we recommend the Ferodo brake pads, simply because we have heard good feedbacks from customers about them. I, myself, however have never used the brake pads.

We also offer stainless steel braided brake lines for $120.00.

Talking Hey Neal@tirerack!

I just found the EBC 2004.5 catalog… hot off of the presses:
http://www.ebcbrakes.com/Assets/2004_5USAautocat.pdf

It only lists redstuff part numbers (front: DP31210C rear: DP3197/2C) for our Evos, no greenstuff. In any case, how soon will we be able to order those (and sport rotors too, GD975 and GD996) from you guys?
