Toyo R888

Just got a set of R888s..... Coming from Advans I must say these tires are amazing. I realize the life and stiff sidewall and price deter people but for ultimate grip for a street legal tire they're EPIC. The only tire I've felt was close to this is the Azenis rt615k's in an STi. I would definitely recommend these if you can afford it. No wonder the UGR Gallardos and AMS GT-Rs use them. I've heard rain performance is not the best but the owner of the STi running the Azenis did mention that they hydroplane in heavy rain and I assume these are similar considering the semi-slick nature of the tires.

Honestly, the Azenis 615K isn't that great of a tire, I wouldn't even compare it. I track on R888s and I'd imagine a Hankook RS-3 (street tire) would be comparable, if not faster. The R888s at full tread are not bad in the rain on track. I run them in the 285/30/18 size.

Very much this.

888s are not for street use. They are for race use. If you like sandblasting your paint. Cool. They will find every sand bit and rock for your paint.

RS3s or Z1s are true street tires. Come to temps faster than 888s in street use.

I can tell you that also haha. My GG fenders were light grey when I sold the car. Just bought a red one and I will not be making the same mistake (This was Hoosiers vs stock fenders on a rocky lot.
I would clear bra my fender or something.

I've never been a real fan of any of the toyo tires, but I will say for certain that there is no way the 615 performs anywhere near it; r compound vs street compound.

for a streetable R comp, NT01s > R888s. better hot grip and can take more heat cycles

i've run all sorts of R compounds on the streets and trust me, its not worth it. they're noisy, suck in the rain, suck in the cold (not just in cold weather, but not warmed up altogether), kills your paint etc etc. you're much better off running something like RE-11/AD08/Z1* for the street and have a set of dedicated track tires for real competitive events (not HPDEs), at which point i'd look into Kumhos and Hoosiers

my 2 cents

I haven't heard many good things about the 888's... but I've never ran them myself.

Have a set on my 8 255/35/18 Wrapped on Advan RS 18X9 29 Offset Never Looked back at any other Tire for the Summer, Spring here in the North Eastern Climate. I dont recommend it for a Daily as the Tread Wear is rated 200 or close to this.

I can't run Nittos, they're not road legal where I am so I have no experience with them. Regarding the R888 I'm suprised people have mixed reviews because my personal experience so far with them is good. They're not the best tire for street use because of their wear, reduced rain performance, stiff sidewalls (comfort) and picking up every little grain on the road but for pure grip I haven't experienced a better tire so far. Of course there's a huge selection of tires I haven't tried but I got them because of the great reviews they're received in terms of all out grip. UGR uses them on their TT Gallardo and so does AMS on the Alpha 12.

Just checked, the NT01s actually are legal here which I never knew, would you recommend them? Do they need to heat up before use because R888s heat up pretty fast on the street.

there are so many good tires out there with superb street performance,i think your wasting your money brutha,if i was looking for a street tire id go with the hankook rs3,you can buy that tire here in so cal in a 255/17 for around $130 a corner,re050 is also a good tire that ive had on track which is really good, top of the line performance tires have very little difference in grip levels versus some r comps but the r comp will take a lot more heat and the street tire will give up quicker
