Stock lugs

I have a 2003 evo 8. The dude at discount tires said something about how our factory wheels need the factory lugs because part goes into the wheel. I know they have washers that are built in it. I have the stock 17in Enkei.
Ive never heard of this before. Can anyone explain this?

Yep use only the stock lugnuts on the stock wheels. There are other "aftermarket" options but they are far and few between.

What is the reasoning for only being able to use stock lugs?

Reasoning: Its like lego's you see. Certain sized legos fit with certain sizes.

The factory "seat" on rims requires a specific shape that Mitsubishi (in their infinate wisdom) chose a very odd, nearly unique shape.

Toyota had a few years where their lugs had the same seat pattern, but the lugs were 1/8" longer so the lug nuts arent interchangeable.

Behold! 2 seconds of google searching!!!!!
