gtworx springs and 17x9.5 wheels

im looking for someone who has run this setup.

specifically a 17x9.5 +38 wheel (rpf1's) with a 255 tire.

i have seen people say that the 17x9 +35 will fit no problem, that the 9.5 +38 will fit no problem, and that the 9.5 +38 will rub without rolling.

fact of the matter is the 9.5 +38 sticks out 3mm more than 9 +35, and i have a hard time believing that 3mm makes the difference from not rubbing at all to sever rubbing.

so if anyone has direct experience, it would be greatly appreciated!

I ran that setup for 2 years. It'll fit fine. Roll rear fenders. Run -2 degrees in front. Its a simple setup, nothing super "flush."

Well my real question is, can I get away without rolling for a short period, including a track day.

Umm, I'm hesitant to say yes, because I was afraid mine would rub so I rolled it. I also did mine right before an autox. At the time, I ran -1.5 degrees in the back, and it seems like it wouldn't touch. If it rubs on the street, it will surely do so on track. Good Luck.

Pull the rear strut out & jack the wheel/tire assy into the well. Then you'll know for sure

yeah thats what i figured. i just dont have time to roll before the event, as it falls on the first day of my vacation...but i can after. dont really wanna run my star specs again, as i have one with a roasted inside shoulder from the last time out.

im trying to convince my self that that 3mm extra cant make that big a difference, since i think a tire could deflect that far and make the 9 inch setup rub if that was the case.

...and still waiting for the day the damn rs3's come off back order everywhere.

just fitted the wheels. they are friggin wide...my rear trailling link clearance is now measured in widths of paper, and will probably polish the arm with any deflection. no idea about the fender lip...i will drive it tonight, but ill probably out of worry roll it, but i do have a track day before i can do that...

i have 18x 9.5 +29 and they are flush, and I also have lowering springs. So I dont think you should have any problem

just went for a ride and hit some notorious dips/bumps, that used to make my old car with wide wheels rub. and no rubbing yet.

the car is nicely stable, and the tires are noticeably quieter than my beat up star specs...now i just have to cross my fingers no one steals them!

I use this exact set-up w/255 StarSpecs and the rear rubbed on compression with no one in the car. If I was turning and hit a bump, say an on-ramp for instance, the rear would rub on the outside. The fronts are fine.

im thinking youll be right because the rs3's are F-A-T. for daily driving tho, i dont think there would be an issue.
