Brake rotor question
I've got an EVO IX MR with about 70k miles on it and the rotors are looking kind of thin. I found the original set of rotors from my first EVO IX MR (the 180,000 mile beast) that i took off the car at 30k miles. They've been sitting up for 5 or 6 years in my parents garage so there's a lot of surface rust. I'm planning on swapping them out today because I've got an autocross sunday. The question is, should I clean them first? I'm thinking no because I don't feel like it, and the pads will clean them anyway...that, and I see people build cars with old rotors all the time and never seen them clean the rotors first. I also never see cars that have sat up for a while clean the rotors before they drive the car, so I'm thinking it shouldn't be a big deal.
Just wanted some opinions on what you guys would do.

Take a very light scotch pad and JB blaster to it then clean the **** out of them with brake cleaner.

they aren't pitted anywhere. they are just surface rust. that stuff you said sounds like a lot of work lol I may just bring them somewhere to get them turned. How much does that usually run?

Any proper car guy should have all three sitting around

Turning depends shop to shop. I'd barter for $20 for all 4. Since you're just giving them the rotors. They just need to turn them.

yeah $20 for all 4 sounds like a much better proposition than buying and using all that other crap lol I've got way too much to do this weekend. dropping them off and picking them up clean and just having to swap them out sounds like the best value. but what you're saying is that I should clean them though? don't just put them on the car and go with it? lol
