Need help with coil-over choice
You want cheap coilovers for what? Getting low, wrong section on this forum. You want to handle? We could help you with that, but you'll have to put your ego away before any of us who have tried nearly every brand available will put effort beyond giving you ****.
My ego? This forum is called evo tires wheels brakes and suspension I'm asking about suspension the small group of flamers who have decided talking about any of the things in this section for anything other than performance can go have fun talking to each other alone, I want to know what the ride quality of fortune auto comfort series coilovers is in comparison to stock and if the swift spring upgrade is really worth it. Not sure why I can't post this here, I asked wha coilovers in that price range are the best, I got an answer, looked at a model from that brand and now have a question about it, why exactly is this the wrong place to ask that?
Just wondering if anyone who has bought the comfort series coils can tell me what the ride quality is like vs stock in terms of comfort
Worse? Way worse? The same? And did you go swift spring with this kit? Also do they perform at least as well as stock
And I'm talking about on an evo 8, my ride quality is already pretty bumpy and stiff so I can't imagine it could be much worse with any coil kit honestly...

ANY SUB $1500 COILOVER IS GOING TO BE THE SAME
what's hard to comprehend about that? brand doesn't matter. Personally i'd buy fortune just because they have a customer service department in the US and they presumably speak english as well
coilovers are going to be stiffer than the kyb's. bilstein is still going to give you the best ride for a daily driver. if you want coilovers, then buy them, but the ride will be "worse" (stiffer / harsher) than the kyb's

well now I honestly see 2 options if i were in your shoes.
1. Swift spec r springs with bilstein shocks = proven to be epic and are loved by most
2. fortune auto comfort series seems to be in your alleyway if you want to go the coilover route. To be honest they probably ride like most of the other 1000 dollar coilovers.
Yes I am a little biased towards fortune autos, but within my researching they seem like one of the better choices of coilovers within the $ 1000range.

Anyone who actually has experience with these? Not just speculators
This is not aimed at you thatguy5
Also how much lower do the swift spec r springs make your car? And are you talking about the bilsteins from evo ix? Or a replacement set of shocks?

Honestly, it's going to depend on a lot of things, some of which being valving and spring rate. It can get a lot worse than stock if you have stiff springs with cheap coilovers with crappy valving. If you can find a used set of KWs in the $1500 range that might be your best bet for a balance between comfort and performance. Most of the cheap coilovers (BC, Fortune, Apexi, Tein, Megan, etc) are going to give you a harsher ride than stock.

So lets start over...say I went with something around 2000 new what would the experts here recommend? And what should I stay away from? Again looking for decent ride comfort and a little performance as I may hit the track once or twice in a blue moon
I see some hks hipermax iii for sale, are those any good? Should I just look for kw's?
Sorry to ask but I used to search for coilovers and its like 200 pages of maperformance or w.e posting the same thing over and over again...
Just wanna know what brands to avoid if I am going to spend around 2 grand and what will be a good balance of comfort and performance, I wouldn't be opposed to say 1500 or 1800 dollar coils too if they were a hidden gem type of thing

Awesome for the disgruntled old guys who know what works for track who also can't read, ive specifically said I do not track this car
Thank you for telling me what I'm going to be doing with my car, by the way, guy who knows nothing about me or my car.
You "old timers in the know" would probably get a better response and get your point across better if you weren't intentionally being derogatory and condescending with your responses and your "help" also responding with what's good for track when someone says I want the most comfortable coil kit available in x price range just loses you all credibility
I will rephrase...I want opinions on the best coilovers in the 900-1300 dollar range that perform at least at the quality of stock and have the most comfortable ride for what they are - a cheap coilover kit
Would getting apexi n1s with the swift something upgrade really be the best? Or is the ride a lot more harsh than stock? Or would I like something like the fortune auto comfort series coils with swift spring upgrade? And what is the comfort series' ride like in comparison to a stock suspension's ride?

If you are dead set on getting coilovers then get the Fortune Auto's. They seem the be at the top of the sub 2K heap.
I'm going to ignore the rest of your post since you've already caught alot fo flack. Its late and I don't feel like arguing.
Good luck with what you decide to get. I'm no means an expert. I can only go off my experience plus the other "old timers" who've been there done that.

HKS Hipermax/Tein/BC Racing/BuddyClub/DSport/KSport/Stance/Apex'i/Tanabe/JIC Magic/Most Japanese Market brands with the exception of higher end ones are all the same. Valving is all over the place and the ride for the most part will be harsh. If you're used to this then you won't see anything wrong with that, and at that point its simply a matter of price point and color.
The Fortune Auto's are a little different to me. I believe they do provide Shock Data. They are local on the East coast and their customer service is great (I've had to cal for support on my wife's STi. Not the same car but they normally answer the phone and have quick turnaround.
I almost bought a set of AMR's off of DallasJ on here. They are local to the west coast and custom built. A little more expensive but from what I gather they are a little more purpose built. Not too many people run them and you can PM DallasJ for more info.
If you can snag a set of used KW's/H&R's or Ohlin's and they are reasonable (I know some people sell their stuff on here like its gold), then jump on it.
Otherwise those are your choices. I have used BC Racing, Tein's and Fortune Auto's (On my wife's car). We've had some issues on the STi inherent to that suspension setup I wasn't aware of before I bought them I probably would've bought something else. I know its a different platform but I wanted ot give you real world advice based on my experience.
Good luck.
The hipermax coils are like 2400 new vs the others that are like 1k to 1500 are the hipermax just junk?
And I'm on 03 evo 8 suspension so that's the level of comfort I want to match or beat which from what ive read isnt hard to do...
Ill be on the lookout for some kws I suppose

For the money yes. I was surprised at how much quality the Hipermax/Tein's and some of the higher end Japanese coilovers were NOT.
Coming from the Honda World Tein's are some of the best coilovers to get (at least back in the day), how little we new.
Hipermax are decent but not for the money. Plus keep in mind if you ever need them rebuilt it will be a PITA because they pulled up stakes and went back to Japan. Anything brand new from them is either left over stock or purchased directly from Japan.
There is talk they are essentially the same as some of the Lower end coilovers.

go nuts, tons of pictures of bilsteins (yes, the ones off the MR's) with swift sport, gtworx, etc., etc.
