DIY Rotors and Brakes questions

Hey guys, I read through the DIY brakes and rotors change thread. The thread is for front rotors. Is there a different way of changing rear rotors? Also, remove/change brake pads before changing rotors? Do I need some caliper reset tool? Finally, what do you use to hammer the pins out during brake change (saw this on a youtube video where a guy is sticking what looks like a nail or something to get the pistons off). Thanks!!

The front and rears are essentially the same process. Just make sure your e brake isnt engaged or else you wont be able to pull off the rotors. You dont need any special tool to push back in the pistons. Keep the old pads in there and use them as leverage to reset the pistons. Lastly, a nail will work perfectly to remove the pins. Honestly its all very straightforward so dont sweat it.

I generally use a robertson head screwdriver to tap out the first part of the pins, then use needle-nose pliers to take them out the rest of the way.

Yeah I use a thin center punch but a nail works fine. It doesnt take much to loosen it so really anything that is thin enough and has a little strength (ex. not a paper clip) will work. You just gotta pop it loose than you can pull it out

Refrain from filling the master cylinder, if low, until the brake job is done. When you push in the caliper pistons fluid goes to the master cylinder.

To remove the rotor the caliper must come off - two bolts. Don't allow the caliper to hang by the brake line. If the rotor is stuck there are threaded holes in the rotor. Screw in bolts to pop the rotor free.
