DANGEROUS D2 Coilover defect!!!
Just now logged in to paypal. I am getting a refund I just have to ship them back to the seller. Now I suppose I have to find some different coilovers. Thinking about the apexi n1 exv.
Just pick up New tophats
It really looks like they had a bad casting with porosity or a hairline crack. Companies are getting so pathetic anymore purchasing cheap castings to save a buck when they are putting innocent lives in danger. I used to work for a testing facility machining their specimens. You wouldn't believe the crappy castings I have seen. Worst part was, most of the work we did was for material that went on aircrafts and automobiles. You should see the inside of a GM engine block. seriously border line swiss cheese. You have to cut around porosity just to salvage a .350 or .25 round tensile
Same thing happened on my megan tracks. Heard a bang while stopped. Got out and had hella camber thought the camber plate bolts were loose and just slid . But nope same thing as this. I got them used off a buddy for dirt cheap so I wasnt to mad. But glad I wasnt driving when it happened lol. Megan said to send a proof of ppurchae and the would send a new set. I didnt bother and bought different coils.
I just came across this thread so I went back to look up this case. First of all regardless of the cause or issue we're very glad neither Brent nor anyone else was injured but we take any case where there would have been the potential for bodily harm or physical damage very seriously. I'm a bit confused why this thread was even posted before taking the time to contact us. Regardless Brent conversed back and fourth several emails with our head tech on April 11th (days before several of his responses on this thread) in which we stated we were unable to determine the cause of the issue which could have been manufacturer defect, installation issue or abuse. Regardless we offered to send a prepaid shipping label so that the damaged unit or all four (his choice) could be sent back for inspection and or/repair with same day turnaround. As stated by the pictures we were unable to determine the cause of the issue so we took full responsibility for fixing it. Obviously this is not a widespread issue or out of the 5000+ sets/year we distribute in the US and have been doing so for 12 years we wouldn't still be a growing business. As stated by several other users there are manufacturer defects in any product from OE car manufacturers to every single aftermarket coilover manufacturer.
In re to the comment "all chinese coilovers are the same". D2 Coilovers are manufactured by D2 in Taiwan, not a third party in China. I challenge you to show me the factory for some of the fanboy "JDM" brands. If you do your research I'm sure you'll be surprised/shocked by what you find. D2 Racing has been in business since 1996 and we have had an office in the US since 2001, we aren't going anywhere and we don't run from issues.
