Home made rear STB

Here is my custom rear shock tower brace that took me half the day to build and install yesterday. What do you think?

I used thin walled mild steel tubing, 1/2in rod ends. 1/8 mild welding stock for the shock tower brackets bent in a horse shoe to fit the tower at the spot welds.Skip welded the bracket on so I can remove it later if I have to. I did set it up to be bolt in but I like to weld.

i am i correct in that you welded the nut sectionon then used an eye joint which screws into the end, can you get pics of the end parts with out the carpet, i was thinking you had to create a flat bracket to mount it to the frame, is there a bolt pattern already on the car. . some extra pics would be nice. thanks

thinking of doing this my self now. I have Powder coating company around the corner for the color.

That is a Jam nut you see in the photo. I welded a 1/2 inch lug nut onto the tubing for the Rod end. The bracket fits the contour of the shock towers where they are spot welded togather or raps around it. Can be drilled and bolted in. The rod end is then set in double shear. The bracket does not fit the top of the tower but the side, were the load is transfered to the other side, no top bolts to enlongate from movement like the aftermarket ones can do. I will try to get some photos for you later, today I am getting the car ready to tomorrows Auto-X.

That's true, should always carry a pack of bubble gum and some paper clips in case you get a flat or need to fend off dangerous enemies

If I get the time before work, I will snap some photos behind the panles for you tomorrow. I just hate pulling the snap rivits out.

mksevo,
I hope your not using pipe. Tubing works so much better and is lighter.
