For those with carbotech pads...
Just installed a set of carbotech front pads (xp12) with new centric rotors for my upcoming HPDE and noticed on the top edge of the pads the material is above the rotor on the front and rear parts of the pad. In the middle of the pad it sits flush with the rotor. Is this normal? Im pretty sure it should sit flush throughout the pad. I double checked the part numbers and they appear to be correct.
Also
Do you guys use any type of lube on the backing plate of these pads?
Thanks

I had the same issue with a set of Carbotech bobcats on my evo. Carbotech claimed they were the right parts/pad design. This on my brand new at the time DBA 4000 rotors ( $850 )
I ended up trimming the excess off with a dremel and all was ok. Except i had to continually re-bed the damn pads every month or so or they squealed like H&*(
Another thing I discovered was pad transfer sucked....every month by the time the squealing got unbearable the pad transfer was very evident. Re-bedding fixed this until the next time
I would not buy Carbotech again after the issues i had with them. And I have previously used many types of pads from Carbotech on other cars. So bear that in mind.

Run Carbos on the track & had the same edge develop both front & rear. Between track days I would just take a file & remove the edge
Wasnt quite sure what to make of that edge. Almost like the pad was floating too high on the rotor.
Anyway, good topic knowing I wasnt the only one w/the issue

they are a great pad. i'd say just stick with them and trim them as needed? though that seems kinda... weird.
P.S. once i've gotten any of my track pads bedded in and pad transfer is done, they howl and scream like crazy. that's the sign of a good track pad
. also, OP: if you plan to track those pads, no anti-squeal on the back. you will cook it away during your first couple of laps.

Wish I'd researched these before buying based solely on my Subaru experience.

Quiet pad or good bite. Its a compromise of those 2. 95% of Evo owners will never exceed the performance of the OEM Brembo pads. Sure they are expensive, but it costs money to R&D a pad that is quiet with good bite.
Track pad+light brake application(which you never do on track)=noise(normal operation)

based on what i've read here, I'll switch to XP10/XP8, front/rear next time. They're supposed to be just fine on the street and brilliant on the track. I have the AMS brake ducts, so I think I'll be golden.
