evo 6 urgent help needed

hi guys.hope ur all well

i have a evo 6 with some 17inch enkei wrc tarmac evo wheels.i have 225/45/17 tyres on them. the problem that i am having is that when i take a right turn with a little bit of speed the passenger side (right hand drive) is catching and rubbing on the innerside of the wheel arch that sheilds from engine.whilst driving on the motorway today i punctered the passenger side tyre. when i inspected the tyre the tyre was completely shreaded. i think the car was slightly lowered by the owner before. my question is what size spacers would i need to stop the rubbing.i am unsure if 20mm would be too big.the wheel size is 17 x 8.5 and et is 30. any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance for replies.

Has the car rubbed since you got it, or is this a new problem? Take it in for an alignment and have your suspension checked for damage (including all bushings and control arms). You should be able to run up to a 235 tire on stock 5/6 fenders without rubbing, unless you are really low.

P.S. wheel spacers would make your problem worse. 17x8.5+30 is already an aggressive fitment for the 5/6.

Yes mate its rubbed since I've got it.ive had the car for around a month. it only when taking right turns with a little speed, if I take right turns slow its ok.its not rubbing on the actual fender.its rubbing on the inside side of the wheel on the plastic guard that prevents it touching the engine.it seems like the width of the tyre is causing the problem not the height.I can take some pics tomorrow of where it has been rubbing. Ive attached a pic to show the current ride height, if that helps.
p.s i had wheel alignment done around a fortnight ago and it made no difference
thanks

The fact that it is only the 1 corner rubbing makes me think your suspension is not sitting level. Maybe a blown strut? Definitely check over your control arms to make sure the car is not "leaning". The rear upper control arms were a known problem on the 5/6 (even prompting a recall) http://www.lancerregister.com/showthread.php?t=503492

Also check the inner lip of the wheel well that was catching the tire. The tire might have pulled it down creating a bulge. Might be a good excuse to get your fenders rolled.

Hi nemsin I managed to take some pics of where its been rubbing, if it helps locate the problem.its rubbing on the plastic piece that goes over the bit in. The pic.
thanks

The question is not what its rubbing, but WHY its rubbing. Unless that plastic piece was missing fasteners causing it to move towards the wheel. You need to go over all over suspension components (front and rear). I suspect abnormal body roll is causing that front tire to make contact. Check your struts, bushings, control arms, and sway bar end links. If you cannot identify the problem it is probably worth taking it to a shop that specializes in setting up track day suspensions.

Maybe consider doing a full set of new bushings (I recommend Ralliart or Whiteline) at the same time. When they press in the new bushings they should be able to see if anything is damaged.
