Tire size question from a noob

Hi all,
Just bought my Evo a month ago. It came with 19" rims and since I bought this for track use only they wont do me much good. I'm going to be getting the stock or similar 17" rims and am wondering if my left over 225/45/17 BFG Rivals and Hankook V12 225/50/17 from my last AutoX car would work? I know they are smaller than the (what I believe is stock) 235. Will they work or should I just man up and get a new set of tires?

Any other suggestions are more than welcome. This is my first "high" performance turbo car so I really feel like I have no idea what I am doing!!

Oh boy, you are in for some fun... Get a new set of tires. This will also help diagnose any alignment problems, if any exist. What mods does the car have?

lol, as far as I know...
IX Turbo
Ported Mani
3" catless DP-Catback
HKS Intake
Injen upper and lower piping
Unkown FMIC
Cammed (not sure what size)
HKS gears
AMS fuel rail (not sure if the injectors are stock or not but looking for 1200cc Hi-z's for e85 tune)
Stage 3.5 Comp clutch and ACT street light weight flywheel
A terrible wide body kit!! lol
19" rims with General tires half burnt on the front and full tread on the rear (wtf)!!
I just installed a new boost and afr gauge (prosport evo)
Also tuned last week since the AFR was all over the place and was running rich a hell. Managed 334awhp and 320 torque at 25psi

I think this is it

My main goal is to AutoX and possibly get into track racing. Should I be looking to stay 17's or go up to 18's? Also, what is the best suggested tire size (235,245,265)?

The 225/45's are smaller than normal, but may work. However, the 50 series are a bit taller than what I see fitting properly. A 245/40-17 is quite popular and is well known to fit.

If you want to race with that car you have to target at suspension tires and brakes primary. good tires are the cheapest radical improvement to your lap times. if you want to race buy only semi slicks. slicks are better but you need 2 sets of wheels because you cant drive slick on public road. so buy some good semi slick tires with size that manufacturer recomended. I recomend you 18 inch rims but dont buy some fancy chrome set. you need strong durable wheel. but if you dont want to spend money you can use your standard 17 inch wheels with no problems. dont buy some magnesium forged racing wheel and cheapest tires, tire is more important than wheel. if you want to improve your lap times start with handling no with engine. buy good tires, brake pads, coilovers, wheels and big brakes. in this order. the most important thing is having fun behind the wheel
