My very honest opinion for someone who is just doing it for fun, and to maintain daily driveability, is to stick with a good spring and shock (perhaps look for an adjust shock like Koni or Ohlins). I like the suggestion of doing the rear diff restack, or upgrade to the Weir 12 plate. Add bushings and sway bars as needed. I daily drive my car, and do some very long distance driving all year long, so I know what its like have some comfort. In not way am I saying coilovers are uncomfortable, but in my opinion, overall harsher, require some maintenance, and cost more overall given most places charge more for alignments, etc.

Of your list however, I like Fortune Auto the most. I've been to their shop and have seen their work. I have friends who track with their parts and are very successful. I've driven on FA equipped cars and they are very comfortable given the spring rate and valving for those cars. Revalving and rebuilding FA's are also not as costly as some of the other brands that are being tossed up in the thread.

Having said that, some of the other options being recommended are great also. It comes down to your budget really. I run Ohlins Flag personally. Very harsh for dd manners given its true motorsport setup. But I sacrifice that for its track manner. Each click of adjustment is very noticeable. The newer R&T setup with the dual flow valving I hear is very good, but have no personal experience with them.

KW is a great setup as everyone knows. My gripe is the pastic perches with locking allen screw; I hate that design. I also don't like their use of camber bolts for additional adjustment. I guess they do this because you don't get camber plates and pillow mounts with their setup. So being already expensive for the V3, you also have to purchase camber plates if you want more camber. Lastly, I think its a compromise for spring rates, which probably works in your favor as your car is intended to be a daily driver.

As for Tein, EDFC...PLEASE!

Good luck finding the right setup!!!

I will add I have KW v3 and they have slightly stiffer springs than what they come with. they are very comfortable on the street and good competitively with a street tires in autox.

However with a sticker r compound you may want a stiffer setup, which is why I am planning on selling my set up for a higher spring rate solution.

When you start getting into the higher end suspension set-ups, you may run into reliability issues in the sense that those shocks need to be rebuilt more often. I love my Motons, but I just blew a seal and now have to get the fronts rebuilt. And my car has never seen the track (I know, an insult to my suspension set-up), so just LA streets blew the seal on my left front.

Ohlins are put it on and forget it type of shocks (for the most part). Everyone else doesn't have their R&D behind them, not even the top guys. So, if you want to have more of a worry-free experience, Ohlins are the way to go in my opinion. I know nothing about Fortune Auto, but I have never heard them. And Tein being talked about in the same breath as Moton, JRZ, Penske, etc. Never

Get ohlins if u are already spending that much coin. I have them and I cannot complain except the rates they initially came in. I have stiffer springs in mine and even for daily it's rather soft after adjusting. I have autox them and they are pretty good, I haven't autoxed the Evo on anything stiffer so I'm only giving my feedback from my experience with my ohlins.

My goals are a 500whp evo for street that can go to the track with out problems.
Now i have 300whp on pump gas, the other 200 whp and suspension upgrade will cost more than $10k that i will spend by parts.
My personal opinion. Save your money for consumables and broken parts(in 1 season I cracked my front LSD $3k from shep, burnt up my rear diff pinion bearings $150, destroyed my exedy twin rebuild parts $800, and blew my engine $4,500 and still counting. this doesnt even count tires, brakes, fuel, etc) Your current power level is perfect, you will be hard pressed to find a track evo on this site that has over 400hp. To me you autox experience and track time doesn't justify the jump to coilovers. I bought my Ohlins when I started running R-comps, I needed high spring rates to get more hear in the tires. But if money is burning a hole in your pocket I highly recommend Ohlins. 2 years of daily driving, 2 regional autox championships, and 6 track weekends a year. Never had a problem, and my wife has never complained about the ride quailty.

Cheers,

Cb

Why did you decide on this one specifically?

Brand/model takes a far back seat to spec, setup, and driver preference.

Valving, Spring Rates and your tolerance for comfort vs. harshness will vary from one persons preference to another. I think what's most important is that you run spring rates appropriate for your needs and dampers that are suited to those rates.

I daily drive my JRZ double adjustable suspension and go on long road trips, and absolutely love them both on and off the track. I cannot praise them highly enough and would not choose another damper over them, but would consider Ohlins or AST similarly. Do I need them for DD? No, but they are amazing when I do autocross or track them, and because of the valving and rates, are some of the most comfortable coilovers I've driven on the street that also perform that well on the track. Obviously lower spring rates help this.
