Time for new rubber

Tires are about done... The are RE-01Rs... and I love them.

What is a comparable tire to them?

ExtremeContact DW?
Pilot Super Sport?
V12s?
StarSpecs?
Nitto 555? (so far the leading suggestion in match)
Other?

I LOVE the firm, riding on rails, crisp feeling. I love that its stable at speed, its so precise when changing lanes and going around corners.

I am running 245/45/17s on stock tires. Hoping for wider tire than stock so people who know what fits on stock wheels would be appreciated.

If you don't care about M&S the I'd get Hankook RS3s. I've run them on street and road course with great luck. They ride nice, handle awesome and last a long time (for such use) - cheap too! I've got a set of Pilot Super Sports on stock wheels and the outer shoulders only could take a single track day. Now they're strictly street tires that I'm waiting to wear out.

I'll replace the PSSs with RS3s and RS3s with the new Maxxis RC1s.

Not at all the same kind of tire as what OP is looking for...

OP: Dunlop ZII's, Hankook RS3's and BFG Rivals would be good choices. The widest you should go on stock wheels is 255/40-17.

I just tried to get the RS3 V2's, they are not available anywhere right now. You will have to wait a month or more. I went with the ZII's in 265/35R18.

Closest to what you're on now would be the Dunlop SS. Check out Kumho's XS, Toyo R1R, and Yoko AD08R as good alternates.

Dunlop Direzza ZIIs are a great tire, can't speak to all of the others.

Closest tire to the old Bridgestone RE01R would be the Bridgestone RE11R? That makes sense right?

Tirerack has them for $636 after rebate for the 255/40 17 size.

RS3's are good too but sidewalls are super soft, not my style.

AD08R are very very good, my style.

Extreme contact? no
V12? no
555? no
super sports? good but for street only
ZII's? yes but no personal experience...

I had nitto nt555 and for track use they were complete garbage. Way to hard of a compound. I guess if your looking for a long lasting DD tire it would be fine. I switched to Dunlop Direzza ZII and they are amazing.

After running Ventus V12s, I would never use anything Hankook, I agree that you're closest bet is probably the Bridgestone RE-11s (RE-11As are a bit more aggressive if you want to go that route) but personally I love Toyos, I have the R1Rs on my IX and Toyo T1-S' on my VIII. If you do go with the R1Rs be aware that without mudflaps you will have specks of rubber along the side of your car due to the low treadwear rating (140). That said the R1Rs are super grippy, my buddy has a set of Pilot SuperSports on his STI and I still prefer the feel of the R1Rs.

Check out TreadDepot for good prices on tires, they ship really quickly and have really good prices as well as stocking a pretty decent selection.

Question about the Direzza ZII's, I have read reviews and people have stated that road noise is an issue. Can anyone comment on that? I have a turboback exhaust so obviously I don't mind a little noise but the way some people are describing it makes me nervous to purchase!

I have stock exhaust. There is some road noise at highway speeds but nothing crazy. I feel you wouldn't even notice with turboback. The pay off is worth it, these tires handle amazing. Super predictable and hold their own very well.
